As far as tyre technicians are concerned. their uniquely important role in keeping essential services running both during crises and in more normal times has definitely been overlooked by many. However, the latest Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) data suggests thats beginning to change.

Northern Ireland’s public transport provider Translink is rolling out Wheely-Safe technology across its entire fleet in one of Wheely Safe’s largest fleet wins to date. As a result, the 1,400 buses and coaches will now use the in-motion wheel loss detection system, which combines brake and hub temperature monitoring with an intelligent tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

The Autumn Budget offers a balance of positive infrastructure measures and concerns over the support of car parc electrification, according to Sue Robinson, chief executive of the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA). A variety of measures affecting the British automotive industry were set out in the Thursday 17 November Autumn Statement by the Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt. As a whole, the Autumn budget announced today promises growth and investment that the UK so desperately needs, Robinson said. Whilst there are positive notions in areas such as business rates and infrastructure investment, NFDA is concerned that the removal of tax exemption for EV owners could set back the objective of electrification and increasing the number of electric vehicles sold in the UK, in a bid to reach the ever-challenging 2030 targets.

GT Radial car number 97 made history in the 2022 Fun Cup Endurance Championship, becoming the competition’s first ever vehicle driven by an all-female line-up. Experienced racers Wendy Ellis-Smith, Michelle Hayward and Zoe Burke came together for the first time at Snetterton in July. They finished ninth in a field of 19 having started in pole position. In addition to its all-female weekend, Giti used its entry in the Fun Cup to bring together racing legends, celebrities and influencers to pilot the car, led by Giti Tire’s senior test engineer Ellis Hadley. Looking back on the 2022 competition, the GT Radial team said it had enjoyed several memorable achievements.

SAS: Who Dares Wins’ Ollie Ollerton and Nirmal ‘Nims’ Purja, star of Netflix’s 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible, reached the summit of Ama Dablam in Nepal ahead of Armistice Day on 11th November. The pair, both former Special Boat Services operatives, led an expedition up the 6,812m-high Nepalese mountain, accompanied by other former Special Forces soldiers and Royal Marines Commandos. The group climbed the mountain to honour the many British service personnel who have given their lives in conflict and in support of the Royal British Legion. Ollie Ollerton has been supported by Davanti Tyres’ all-terrain tyre – the Terratoura – during his training in the run-up to the expedition.

The UK’s used car market fell for the second consecutive quarter this year, with the SMMT reporting a 12.2% decline over the three months of July to September. Some 1,785,447 vehicles changed hands, the first time that quarter three transactions have dipped below two million since 2015, as semiconductor shortages impacted supply of stock. Year to date sales are now down 9.7% to 5,319,482.
