Figures reveal ‘postcode lottery’ for stolen vehicle recovery in South East
Freedom of Information (FoI) requests to constabularies across South East England by motor insurance loss adjuster Claims Management & Adjusting, part of the QuestGates Group, have revealed huge disparities in stolen vehicle recovery performance. In London last year, the Metropolitan Police found well over half (54.28 per cent) of all vehicles reported stolen to them, whereas Bedfordshire Police recovered only 8.38 per cent and Kent Police even fewer, just 5.65 per cent.

Ford managers in nationwide strike action ballot
Around 500 Ford managers at sites across the country are being balloted for strike action over pay, says Unite, the UK’s leading union. The ballot, which closes on 30 May, came after Ford refused to improve their pay offer and Unite’s request to attend talks with the conciliation service ACAS. The workers, who have recently organised and achieved union recognition in 2023, have been offered a performance related bonus payment, which provides no guarantee of a cost-of-living increase.

New car market growth continues despite declining private demand
UK new car registrations grew for the 21st consecutive month in April, rising by a modest 1.0 per cent to reach 134,274 units, according to the latest data published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). As a result, this was the market’s best April since 2021, although uptake was still -16.6 per cent below the pre-pandemic level in what is traditionally a low volume month following the March plate change.
