Hawthorns Logistics renews Prometeon tyre contract
Hawthorns Logistics, a family run business based in Washington, Sunderland, has signed a 12 month Pay-as-You-Go contract with Prometeon Tyre Group for the company’s entire fleet. The contract includes Prometeon’s central billing tool, PRO Management.

National motor factor GSF Car Parts and final-mile delivery specialists Delivery Mates are partnering for a unique challenge to raise awareness and money for the automotive industry charity BEN. A team of six riders from GSF and Delivery Mates will complete a three-day rally on electric motorbikes, visiting 15 GSF branches along the way. The rally will begin at Midpoint, GSF’s National Distribution Centre in Birmingham, and conclude at its Chester Support Office in the north west.

A new survey from Bloomberg Intelligence (BI) on auto-buying intentions finds that EU automakers battery-electric vehicle (BEV) growth goals look ambitious, with just 16 per cent of private buyers in Europe favouring them. 44 per cent opting for hybrids that play to BMW, Mercedes and Toyotas strengths and disadvantage pure-play Tesla. Few charging points, range anxiety and high prices are the top concerns amongst respondents. The inaugural auto-buying questionnaire surveyed 1,500 adults planning to buy a car in the next 12 months in the five largest European markets of Germany, UK, France, Italy and Spain – together these making up about 75 per cent of the regions sales.

The new car market grew 24.4 per cent in August with 85,657 new vehicles registered, according to the latest SMMT figures. While August is typically a quieter month with many buyers choosing to wait until the September number plate change, an increase of 16,799 units means the sector is now entering a second year of growth. Despite this improved performance, the market still remains -7.5 per cent below pre-pandemic levels. The increase was fuelled by a surge in registrations by large fleets, rising 58.4 per cent to 51,951 units, while business registrations grew 39.4 per cent to 1,635 units. Conversely, private demand softened by -8.1 per cent, compared with a supply-constrained 2022 market.
