PRA gives qualified welcome to Chancellor’s ‘pledge’
The Petrol Retailers Association (PRA) has welcomed the announcement that the Chancellor George Osborne MP has pledged in his keynote speech at the Conservative partys annual conference, to freeze fuel duty until the next election in May 2015, meaning that the planned duty rise of 2 pence per litre in September 2014 is unlikely to go ahead.

It gets underway tomorrow, and UK motorists will be put under pressure to ensure their tyres are properly inflated. The Tyre Safety Month campaign, organised by no-profit road safety group TyreSafe and supported by thousands of garages and other organisations across the UK, will be encouraging drivers to make monthly checks on their tyre pressures to ensure they remain safe on the road.

Giti Tire has given its full support to TyreSafe’s Tyre Safety Month, with all 220 GT Radial Performance Centres (GTPCs) throughout the UK receiving joint-branded customer information packs. Throughout October, TyreSafe is running a ‘check your pressures’ campaign, and GTPCs have been issued with posters, leaflets, a Mr. McIntyre animation and a film to raise awareness of the importance of regular tyre maintenance. A dedicated infographic with tyre safety information for consumers has also been added to the GT Radial web site at www.gtradial.co.uk, where drivers can also search for their closest GTPC.

The 2012 annual report on road casualties in Great Britain was released by the Department for Transport this morning, and these show that the number of drivers killed or seriously injured on the UK's roads as a result of a dangerous, illegal or underinflated tyres, fell by five per cent to 194 casualties.

The brand new resource – which can be found at www.tyresafe.org - is a key part of this year’s campaign. Visitors simply need to enter their postcode to find their nearest tyre retailer offering a free tyre safety check.

Tyre and wheel traders are among the UK's best businesses when it comes to answering customers' telephone calls, according to a survey of 3,630 companies by audio branding specialist PH Media Group. The survey revealed that tyre and wheel suppliers put callers on hold for an average of just 20.05 seconds. Only garden centres (17.44 seconds), demolition firms (17.67) and pharmacies (19.63) performed better. Still, there is room for improvement. Previous research has shown 50 per cent of callers will hang up within 20 seconds if forced to listen to silence while on hold.
