MWSD introduces Chevron stamp denoting steel wheel quality
Motor Wheel Service Distribution (MWSD) will stamp a new Chevron mark onto every steel wheel to assist operators in choosing quality products, while aiding traceability. The imprint, taken from the company’s logo, has been introduced to help truck, trailer, bus and coach fleets identify superior quality wheels that were sourced by the company.

A Halfords survey has suggested that amateur repair or maintenance jobs often have costly consequences. Motorists and householders pay out an estimated £300m a year in order to correct mistakes made by family and friends trying to perform small tasks on cars, with one in six people left regretting accepting help. Maintenance blunders include elementary mistakes involving car batteries, and more serious errors such as using the wrong oil. Almost half (45 per cent) of those who subsequently had to employ an expert were left with a bill of over £100.

Pirelli has launched a new initiative based around the operating temperature of winter tyres. Customers who purchase the manufacturer’s winter products are being offered a 50 per cent refund should the average UK daily temperature remain higher than seven degrees Celsius for more than 30 days between 1 January 2014 and 28 February 2014.

ATS Euromaster says the cold weather tyre sales have continued to grow in the UK nearly four years after becoming the first national tyre retailer to launch a dedicated winter tyre service for UK fleets. Demand for car, SUV and van winter products increased by 14 per cent in 2012 according to the tyre service provider, and this figure is on track for further double-digit growth in 2013. With a particularly cold late autumn forecast, ATS-E says demand could climb even more sharply. Were this to happen, the UK could see its stock of winter tyres depleted quicker, even ahead of the winter months.
