New VRA white paper focuses on used car battery health
A new white paper published by the Vehicle Remarketing Association (VRA) focuses on the key issue of ensuring that used electric vehicle (EV) batteries are properly assessed before sale. Called Electric Vehicle Battery Health: What the Remarketing Sector Needs to Know, it has been written by battery electrochemist Euan McTurk, creator and presenter of Plug Life Television, a YouTube channel about EVs. Ash Sutton is a record-equalling four-time Kwik Fit British Touring Car Champion – the youngest driver ever to do so – after the NAPA Racing UK star clinched the crown with two wins around the legendary Brands Hatch GP circuit on 8 October. The 29-year-old claimed a record matching six pole positions and 12 race wins during the campaign, as Sutton also became the first driver to claim the title in both rear-wheel and front-wheel-drive machinery.

Jolyon Pope, director of tyre retailer Merityre Specialists Ltd, died suddenly on Thursday, 5 October. A well-liked, long-standing, and respected figure in the tyre industry of the UK and beyond, Pope leaves behind a wife, Jennie, their two children and two grandchildren. The National Tyre Distributors Association, of which Merityre is a long-standing member, informed Tyrepress of the sad and unexpected news. The association’s team and executive officers said they were both shocked and saddened to hear the news, offering the following obituary.

ATS Euromaster has launched a web app that allows drivers to book mobile tyre work on their fleet vehicles in real-time. According to ATS Euromaster, it is the first publicly available app that provides this service and follows nine months of research and live trialling. ATS Euromaster expects the app will account for as much as 50 per cent of all of its mobile tyre fitting requests in future.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reports that the UK new car market expanded 21.0% in September, with 272,610 registrations during the month. Electrified vehicle uptake continued to grow but battery electric vehicle volume increases were driven entirely by fleet purchases, with private registrations falling 14.3% and representing less than one in ten new private purchases.

Continental Tyres is supporting “global nomad” Bobby Bolton in his attempt to drive his converted MAN truck 10,000 miles from the UK to Australia. Conti has fitted four off-road optimised HCS tyres to the truck and installed the ContiPressureCheck tyre pressure monitoring system and ContiConnect digital tyre management system, enabling remote monitoring of temperatures and pressures. Bolton will travel through more than 25 countries with his Labrador, Red, on their journey. Bolton has documented on his social media channels the preparation of his 18-tonne, four-wheel-drive overland-style truck for the hostile terrain it will encounter on the journey south. The travellers will use the load bed of the former water bowser as accommodation while on the road.

Lucas Oil has paid its respects to one of its sponsored racers and brand ambassadors who died in a road accident, last week. Chris Hannam, 57, a drag bike racing team manager and former Top Fuel rider was killed while on a motorcycling holiday in Spain. “He was our main sponsored drag bike rider for many years before moving into team management. He was a terrific ambassador for our brand and he was intensely proud of his association with Lucas Oil,” said sales and operations director Dan Morgan. “My sympathies go out to his brother Harry and partner Julie.
