It says “leading tyre distributors and manufacturers” have signed up and will provide products at “competitive prices”. According to epyx, the inclusion of tyres in 1link will enable dealers to provide fleets with a nationwide, fixed price tyre offering.

Former Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy has been appointed to the board of Blackcircles.com. Leahy has been a shareholder in the online tyre business for around six years and his stake in Blackcircles is now said to be 25 per cent. In his new role, Leahy will work with company founder and chief executive Mike Welch and chairman Graeme Bisset to identify and implement new means of financing ongoing growth within the business. One option that Leahy may be closely involved in is an IPO.

UK truck tyre wholesaler International Tyres has secured an exclusive agreement to introduce the Riken brand of truck, bus and coach tyre into the UK. According to the company, the UK introduction of the brand (which is part of the Michelin-produced stable of products) has been fuelled by “strong demand for mid-range products”.

Catloc says CAT, DPF and exhaust theft is on the increase in the UK, and the company sought a partner that would give potential customers easy access to its solutions and fitment of these; for this, it wanted to partner with a sizable and experienced national chain, and Catloc says the presence of more than 300 outlets in the UK made Halfords Autocentres the “obvious choice”.

The latest census data has revealed that the average distance travelled by commuters to work has increased in all English regions and Wales. The Office of National Statistics analysis of the 2011 Census shows that while those commuting regularly are averaging greater mileage, five per cent fewer workers made regular journeys to work than in 2001.

FIFA World Cup sponsor Continental Tyres has embarked on a national roadshow that aims to take a little piece of Brazil to football fans across England. For this ‘Road to Rio’ campaign, the tyre maker has teamed up with Isuzu Truck (UK), which has donated an Isuzu Grafter 3.5 tonne truck to transport Fuleco, the official Brazil 2014 mascot, from town to town. The roadshow began in Liverpool on 11 March and was launched by former Liverpool and England striker Robbie Fowler, a Road to Rio Ambassador for Continental Tyres. Road to Rio will continue until 11 May.

Over two thirds of motorists want the Government to apply the brakes to plans to lower speeds limits on the motorway according to a new poll by Motorpoint. A web-based survey by the car supermarket chain found 78.1 per cent of drivers opposed proposals announced earlier this year to restrict speeds on a section of the M1 to 60mph.
