Point S has unveiled a brand new web site (point-s.co.uk) which offers additional benefits to members and is designed to make it quicker and easier for motorists to book a tyre change online. Developed in response to members’ feedback about the previous version, the new Point S website is designed to offer a simpler, more user-friendly layout. It will also harness the power of social media, with links to the Point S Twitter feed and Facebook page, ensuring that member businesses are promoted to the widest possible audience.

Vacu-Lug is supplying Kress Slab Carriers, which make up the heavy end of its customer’s 70-strong vehicle fleet operating from a steel works in Wales. Operating around the clock, the Kress Carriers transport steel slabs within the steel production plant which, together with its sister plant, elsewhere in Wales is capable of producing upwards of 5 million tonnes of steel slab per annum. According to the company, the Kress Carriers are fitted with front, 37.25-35 and rear, 4000 x57 Yokohama tyres, each of which is supported by a ‘cradle-to-grave’ inspection and reporting process carried out by Vacu-Lug.

A team of 12 cyclists from Michelin’s Commercial, solutions and manufacturing departments in the UK are making final preparations for one of their toughest cycling challenges yet when they take on the first two stages of the Tour de France Grand Départ 2014. Swapping their business suits for padded lycra shorts, the team will attempt to ride 391 km over three days between 6 – 8 June in aid of the University Hospital of North Staffordshire (UHNS). The route, from Leeds to Harrogate, and then York to Sheffield, will see them climb more than 22,000 ft – the equivalent of nearing the summit of Mount Everest, or climbing Ben Nevis five times.

Income generated by UK car exports more than doubled over the last decade, according to data collated by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Exports totalled £12 billion in 2004, but rose to £24.8 billion in 2013. During the same period the average wholesale value of each exported car rose from £10,200 (2004) to £20,640 (2013). At the organisation’s International Automotive Summit in Canary Wharf on 11 June, SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes also revealed that, alongside rising manufacturing volumes, the income surge is largely attributable to the shift to building higher-quality models across the country.
