Mannheim predicts part exchange stability
Manheims latest monthly UK Market Analysis in 2014 shows that part-exchange values have risen again for the second month in a row, with February witnessing an all-time high of £3,216, which is a £7 increase when compared with the previous month. On the whole, average selling prices have been on a positive trajectory over the past six months, with values rising by £587 over the period. In fact, the positivity goes even further back, as average values in February 2014 are £280 higher when compared with the same period last year.

It comes too late for those who have already experienced tyre and wheel damage on poor road surfaces over the winter months, however the decision to direct an extra £140 million to councils in England to repair roads damaged by winter weather is nevertheless good news for motorists. The Local Government Association has welcomed Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin’s announcement, even though it believes the extra funds probably won’t cover the full repair bill following the winter floods.

Bandvulc Group has rebranded its operations; the Devon-based company has made subtle changes to its logo and introduced a new slogan, ‘More than a tyre’. Yesterday the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders released its commercial vehicle market registration figures for February 2014, commenting that growth during the month was powered by strength in the van segment. Total commercial vehicle registrations in the UK grew 17.5 per cent in February to 13,320, rolling 15.1 per cent year up to 330,283. A 28.2 per cent year-on-year rise in van registrations to 11,731 registrations boosted the rolling 12 months by 13.8 per cent. The Euro-6-induced dip in truck volumes continued in February but the rate of decline slowed from Januarys 37 per cent drop. The 12 months to February remained 22.4 per cent higher.

The manufacturer said that it would campaign alongside TyreSafe’s other members from a wide variety of sectors, including councils and insurers as well as companies within the tyre industry, to help raise awareness about the dangers associated with illegal and defective tyres. The manufacturer added that it would seek to enhance its tyre safety message with TyreSafe’s help.

Survey results don’t necessarily paint a flattering picture of UK motorists, and the outcome of the latest research from Kwik Fit is no exception. The fast fit network commissioned Consumer Intelligence to survey a group representative of the British motoring public, and it turns out that nine per cent of the 2,002 adults surveyed admitted they weren’t even aware that an MoT certificate is a legal requirement for cars over three years old. An equal number didn’t realise car insurance is compulsory and ten per cent said the same about a valid tax disc.
