
Kumho Tyre partners with R3 for safer UK roads
Driver training school R3 (Road Risk Reduction) has selected Kumho Tyre UK as a new commercial partner. The arrangement will see Kumho Tyre UK and the Rockingham Motor Speedway-based outfit work together towards giving British drivers a solid foundation in both attitude and skill. Kumho will equip all R3 cars with its Ecowing ES01 KH27, and on top of this will send all Kumho Tyre UK staff on a bespoke training course with R3 to ensure safe and economical driving.

Shanghai-based contract tyre manufacturer SD-International recently reinforced its European sales team with the appointment of Andy Baron as sales manager (Northern Europe). Both this and the introduction of the company’s new Toledo range took place during October’s Britytrex exhibition in Manchester.

DriveRight to offer TPMS CAD analysis soon
Tyre, wheel and automotive data firm DriveRight reports that it will soon be offering TPMS CAD analysis. In a recent newsletter the company reports that it has a number of different CAD drawings of OE and AM tyre pressure monitoring sensors from a variety of manufacturers (including Alligator, Schrader, Huf and VDO/Continental).

Retooling leads to UK car production dip, but YTD figures at 6-year high
Although slightly fewer cars were manufactured in the UK last month than in September 2013, production in the first nine months of 2014 was the highest in six years. Mike Hawes, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, commented that “it is testament to the strength of the automotive industry that it continues to break records – yielding the best year-to-date performance for six years and comfortably surpassing one million units.” The reason for the “slight dip” in output in September was, he added, that some plants undertook retooling for new models; this investment, he added, will help increase future production volumes.

TyresOnTheDrive.com has been awarded Cheshire Business of the Year (11-50 employees) at the prestigious Trinity Mirror, Cheshire Business Awards. The awards, which recognise the achievements and success of businesses of all sizes across the Cheshire region, were held at Chester Cathedral and hosted by popular Granada TV presenter Lucy Meacock. The Business of the Year award which celebrates corporate achievements, business strategy, financial performance and potential for the future, was presented to TyresOnTheDrive by Jonathan Whittaker of SAS Daniels LLP. Despite strong competition, TyresOnTheDrive were able to demonstrate a marked differentiation across other similar sized businesses competing for the title of business of the year.

JCB cutting 150 jobs
JCB has announced plans to cut up to 150 jobs. The job losses have been blamed on a slowdown in orders following unrest in Russia, Ukraine and Syria. According to various local news sources, most of the jobs will be lost at the firms Staffordshire factories in Rocester and Cheadle. JCB will now embark on a 45-day consultation with staff at the beginning of November. Any following job cuts are set to take place in the middle of December. The firm has not ruled out making compulsory redundancies.

NAB to represent bodyshop creditors
The National Association of Bodyshops (NAB), has been nominated by some of the UK’s leading body repair specialists to represent them in a Creditors’ Committee looking into the conduct of directors of failed accident management company, Drive Assist. When Drive Assist, once one of Britain’s leading non-fault accident vehicle replacement companies, collapsed in December 2012 with debts of more than £82 million, 150 bodyshops were left with more than £7m in unpaid repair bills.
