The AA partners Event Tyres in new ‘AA tyres’ mobile service
2 April sees the launch of the AA’s first professional mobile tyre fitting service. Called ‘AA Tyres’, the service is a joint venture with Manchester-based Event Tyres and initially, the fleet consists of 30 AA-liveried vans, each equipped to change tyres, repair punctures and balance wheels at a location convenient to the driver. The news confirms earlier reports suggesting such a move was on the horizon.

Fermanagh-based tyre retailer Modern Tyres has announced plans to buy a depot in the Dublin area, continuing a recent expansion strategy within the business. So far details exactly which company it is have not yet been revealed. Modern Tyres is the biggest independent tyre retailer in Ireland, employing 200 people across 40 branches. Tyres & Accessories 2014 tyre retail survey found that – with 30 branches inside the UK – it is the ninth largest retailer in Britain.

Vacu-Lug wins Countrystyle Recycling tyre contract
Vacu-Lug Traction Tyres has secured a new tyre supply contract with Countrystyle Recycling. Countrystyle reportedly opted for the Vacu-Lug full tyre supply and fleet management solution because it wanted “increased visibility and standardisation within a tyre agreement and was impressed by the advanced control and reporting systems that Vacu-Lug offered.” Countrystyle has specified Vacu-Lug, Pirelli, Formula and Westlake tyres, depending on the vehicle type involved. They are managed through Vacu-Lug’s VMS tyre fleet management system and all fitments and breakdowns are supplied and covered by ATS Euromaster.

Kirkby Tyres to support Double Coin, Sailun from separate CV Show stands
Kirkby Tyres has revealed its plans to support its Double Coin and Sailun product ranges from two different stands at this year’s CV Show. Both brands will be exhibited on dedicated, neighbouring 84m2 stands separated by a walkway in Hall 3, with Kirkby staff participating on both stand 3D79 (Double Coin) and 3C70 (Sailun Tyres). The CV Show is held annually at the NEC, Birmingham, and takes place on 14-16 April.

Giti Tire reveals CV Show 2015 stand design
Giti Tire has unveiled its stand design for The CV Show 2015. The stand, situated at 4G40, will provide a platform for the launch of the new GT Radial GDR638 next generation drive axle tyre. An interesting feature of the stand (pictured) will be the presence of the manufacturer’s logo and corporate colours. In previous years Giti has made its flagship GT Radial brand the focus of its CV Show exhibit. Now the manufacturer plans to raise its corporate profile worldwide in support of global infrastructure projects, such as the new $560m manufacturing and distribution plant in Chester County, South Carolina.

Tyres & Accessories understands that this will run in conjunction with a specific industry partner as opposed to being directly owned and run by the AA. AA Tyres will being with 30 vans, something which suggests it will not offer national coverage initially. However, this figure and therefore also the coverage, is likely to increase over time.

Hemingway is known as a designer, entrepreneur and broadcaster. He founded the famous Red or Dead label and shop, has been a forceful voice in sustainable and social responsible design and design education, and has designed everything from houses to sofas to garden sheds.
