Bridgestone’s First Stop network is currently made up of 53 independent member partners, an increase of around 14 in the last 14 months. When you consider that there are a further 16 Kingsway-branded Bridgestone equity-owned branches, this brings the total to 69 and together these two facts suggest that First Stop is currently enjoying a period of growth. Put this figure in the context of the last five years, which weren’t always plain sailing for the retail chain, and you could even describe this growth as a resurgence. With this in mind, Tyres & Accessories spoke with Bridgestone Europe retail business development manager Stuart Eagland.

Sports and music marketing agency KINC, so its Facebook page divulges, is “super excited” that Dunlop has chosen it to develop a new public relations campaign for the tyre maker. KINC says work is already “well underway” to integrate current and new Dunlop ambassadors into a new brand positioning PR initiative that will target lifestyle and consumer media.

Roy Claydon the founder and chairman of well-known tyre wholesaler RH Claydon Ltd passed away on 16 April aged 88 after succumbing to pneumonia. Roy Claydon formed RH Claydon in 1953 and celebrated the company’s 60th anniversary at Newmarket races two years ago.

Large stand drives ‘record visitors’ to Giti at CV Show
Following its week at the Birmingham NEC for this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show, Giti Tire said that it “registered record visitor numbers” to its new look stand. The manufacturer was displaying its new GT Radial GDR638 drive axle tyre, among others, from a large stand incorporating its corporate colours alongside its flagship GT Radial branding for the first time. The manufacturer said the use of its Giti branding was part of a plan to raise its profile worldwide in support of global infrastructure projects, such as the new $560m manufacturing and distribution plant in Chester County, South Carolina.

This follows a comprehensive tyre audit carried out by ATS Euromaster across the customer’s truck and trailer assets, which identified opportunities to reduce operating costs and improve tyre life, safety and uptime.

Record number of UK car buyers go ultra-low on emissions
A record number of UK car buyers are opting to reduce their fuel bills by choosing ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs), according to research by Go Ultra Low. The latest registration figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reveal that more than 41 per cent of all alternatively-fuelled cars registered in the first quarter of 2015 qualified for the governments plug-in car grant, up from 13 per cent over the same period in 2014.

Michelin solutions used the Commercial Vehicle Show 2015 to launch what it calls “a new pan-European value-creation offer for road transport fleets”. In other words, this means the firm is offering price per kilometre (PPK) tyre management contracts with a contractual fuel saving commitment, for the first time. Michelin solutions calls this – ‘Effitires with fuel commitment’ and it is designed to make both hauliers’ and own-account operators’ fleets more efficient by combining outsourced tyre procurement and expert tyre management with a commitment to saving fuel.
