Industrial tyre sector performs well despite raw material and forex complications
With signs that European economies are improving at the same time logistics and the commercial vehicle tyre market is picking up, you might expect the industrial tyre market to be growing too. But with the euro depreciating against the dollar, most of the major manufacturers have announced price increases of between 8 and 10 per cent, making the situation somewhat more complex. With all this in mind, Tyres & Accessories spoke with Eddy Woolley, a director of UK-based national mobile fitting specialist First Industrial Tyres (FIT), in order to find out more about what this means on the ground.

Lodge Tyre Company Ltd has opened its 21st depot, with the unveiling on a new branch in Salford. The family run and Birmingham-based business is celebrating its 80th year of trading during 2015. The new depot, which situated in Lord Byron Square, Salford and close to the M56, M60, M61, M62 and M67 motorway network is located to service Lodges expanding business to business customer list as well as its mobile response service. The depot will initially be used as a stocking unit employing three people and managed by long-time Lodge employee Jamie Davies.

The Alliance of British Drivers (ABD) has issued a call to arms for all drivers, saying it is celebrating the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta with a 21st century mobility charter. This summer, millions of Britains drivers will likely crawl to their holidays on a crumbling road network, congested with road works, the Alliance argues. Yet according to a survey carried out for the ABD last year, some two-thirds of drivers are unaware that they pay roughly five times over for the service they get.
