Yokohama release Chelsea tyre
The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. is to launch the “BluEarth-A AE50 Chelsea FC Edition” featuring the Chelsea Football Club logo on the sidewall. Following the product’s release in Japan on 29 October, the tyre will be launched gradually in Europe, Asia and South America, with approaches varying from country to country. According to Yokohama, the Chelsea tyre will be available in three sizes: 225/45R17 94W, 205/55R16 91V and 195/65R15 91H.

Bridgestone’s double victory at the NTDA Awards 2015 was labelled a “significant breakthrough for the business.” The world’s largest tyre manufacturer won both the Tyre Manufacturer of the Year and the Industry Marketing Campaign of the Year awards, presented at the Annual Dinner in early October. Bridgestone added that the awards pay “tribute to the giant strides made by its senior management team over the past 12 months.”

Using more than a billion miles of driving behaviour data, collected over three years (2011-2014), Wunelli, a LexisNexis company, has revealed the most frequent braking black spots across the UK created by speed cameras, based on motorists braking excessively just before speed cameras to avoid being caught. 80 per cent of all the UK speed cameras investigated had hard braking activity, with braking increasing six fold on average at these locations. Wunelli defines a hard braking event as a change in speed of 6.5+ mph over a one second time period, which is enough to propel a bag on the passenger seat into the footwell.

ATS Euromaster has opened a new flagship facility in Dartford’s Matrix Business Centre on Victoria Road. The network has invested more than £320,000 in this new site, including the most recent tyre fitting, maintenance and vehicle diagnostic equipment. ATS-E stated it selected the 6,000sqft site for its strategic location, bordering East London, close to the A2 and M25. The centre will provide an extended range of fast-fit services, including batteries, brakes, exhausts, oil top-ups, shocks, fault diagnostics and air-conditioning servicing, as well as its tyre services.

The Retail Motor Industry’s chairman has lauded the role of finance packages in achieving the UK’s high rate of new car an commercial vehicle sales growth. “In an era of low interest rates, a growth in competitive finance packages favoured by retail customers has contributed to a six per cent increase in new car and commercial vehicle sales – marking a record high”, RMI chairman Peter Johnson said, speaking at this year’s Retail Motor Industry Federation annual dinner in London on 22 October.

The Maxxis Premitra HP5 was named ‘Tyre of the Year’ at the 2015 Motor Trend magazine award ceremony in Shanghai in August. The new tyre is not available in the UK yet, but is expected to arrive on these shores in the first quarter of 2016 when it will be exclusively distributed by Stapleton’s. Maxxis reports that it made the decision to initially launch the HP5 tyre in China in May due to the size and therefore importance of the Chinese market.
