Accolade for Michelin CrossClimate tyre
Michelin’s new CrossClimate tyre range for cars and small vans – the world’s first summer tyre with winter capabilities – has won the prestigious Fleet News Award for Best New Product 2016. The award was presented Thursday 10 March at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London before an audience of more than 1,500 senior executives from across the fleet industry.

Andrew Page has bought Solid Auto (UK) for an undisclosed sum as part in a bid to become Britain’s leading distributor of Japanese and Korean car parts after as well as a growing player in general. According to the company, the acquisition will also strengthen Andrew Page’s sourcing capability in China and the Far East. Chairman Jim Sumner said: “Birmingham-based Solid Auto has established a very good reputation as a specialist supplier over the last three decades”.

Continental Tyre Group Ltd has appointed a new passenger sales director to take over from Phil Scanlan, who retires from the company after 30 years. Klaus Fremenau has been with Continental for 20 years, starting at Uniroyal after graduating with a university degree. He brings with him extensive experience, with previous roles at Continental Germany such as regional sales manager and his previous position as sales director for car dealer and fleet business.

Lancashire car parts distributor BBC Superfactors will open its new branch in Preston on Monday, 14 March, creating 15 new jobs. The branch, in Great George Street, is the seventh operated by the family run business, with further launches planned in the next six to 18 months. The new premises were occupied previously by Unipart Automotive, which collapsed into administration in July 2014.

Blackpool Transport signs Michelin Effitires contract
Blackpool Transport has agreed a five-year renewal of its Effitires by Michelin solutions comprehensive tyre management programme. The pence-per-mile deal covers Blackpool Transport’s 38 midibuses, 24 full-size single-deck buses and 73 double-deckers, all of which operate from the company’s central depot in Rigby Road. A 10-vehicle ‘reserve fleet’ is also covered under the Effitires contract, as are the Leyland Olympian open-topped and Leyland Atlantean AN68 buses maintained as part of Blackpool Transport’s “heritage fleet”.
