Enjoy Tyre reports that the introduction of its Routeway brand at the recent Reifen Show in Essen, Germany - the firm’s primary objective at the event – was a success. Routeway joins Rotalla as “a quality alternative choice to premium tyres”. According to the company, both brands with their full summer and winter ranges attracted enthusiastic attention from visitors throughout the four-day event.

Voith to handle 2.5 million tyre/wheel assemblies a year after expansion
Once Voith’s new tyre and wheel assembly line is up and running in September, it will handle up to 1,000 different derivatives of wheels and tyres. This new line alone will then have the capacity to produce almost a million assemblies a year on a two-shift basis with the ability to complete 1.5 million with three shifts.” Transfer of the line from the existing facility on Torrington Avenue will begin in July. When combined, the two lines will have the capacity to produce around 2.5 million assemblies per year based on three shifts.

The facility in Torrington Avenue is located only a few hundred yards away from the plant it will replace, and is being set up to meet growing demand from premium and luxury car brands, such as Jaguar and Land Rover, as well as from other automotive manufacturers, including Vauxhall.

UK automotive suppliers investing £225 million over the next three years
The SMMT’s Automotive supply chain members are planning to invest £225 million over the next three years in a bit to boost the British content of vehicles built in the UK. In a new survey of more than 100 SMMT supply chain member companies, 94 per cent said they plan to invest in their businesses over the next three years – at a total of £224,485,000. Of those, four in five (79%) intend to invest in plant, machinery or tooling; three quarters (73%) in skills and apprentices; and two thirds (66%) in new product development.

A new report into the UK’s car buying habits has revealed the impact that technological and generational changes are having on the country’s motorists - and the people they buy their cars from. The 2016 Car Buyers’ Census, compiled from an online YouGov poll by the search engine Carsnip, revealed a growing ‘generation gap’ among drivers, with many younger people embracing new technologies and peer-reviews to make the task of purchasing a car easier than ever. According to the survey, so-called ‘Millennial and ‘Generation Z’ drivers were twice as likely to use online car search when buying a car compared to over-55s.

UK drivers spend £21.1 billion on service and repair (including tyres) every year
The latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) shows that British cars are among the best maintained in the world, with UK motorists spending a collective £21.1 billion a year on servicing and repair. The data, which was released on the eve of the inaugural Automechanika Birmingham, forms the basis of the first official industry analysis of the UK automotive aftermarket. It also comes at the same time that Sainsbury’s bank has released data suggesting the average annual cost of running a car is around £2,197.42, 22 per cent - or £622 - less than 2013. The main reason for this change is that the cost of fuel has fallen by 37.8 per cent during this period.
