Fundraising targets beaten in ATS Euromaster’s 50th anniversary year
ATS Euromaster has smashed the fundraising targets set for its 50th anniversary year by collecting more than £57,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. The tyre and vehicle maintenance retail network pledged to raise £50,000 for the charity but beat its target thanks to what it describes as “a variety of quirky fundraising initiatives led by team members at every level of the business.”

GfK: UK automotive could face manufacturing and sales problems post-Brexit
The UK automotive industry could suffer the double-blow of declining vehicle sales and declining manufacturing after its exit from the European Union. According to GfK, while new registrations grew from 1.9 million to 2.6 million between 2011 and 2015 (DVLA), the news of Brexit has had a strong impact on the long-running GfK Consumer Confidence Index. The latest figures show an 8 point decline since the June survey, and a fall of 12.8 versus the rolling 12 month average in December 2015.

On 30 June Universal Tyres acquired Jetyres. The deal, which was six months in the making, sees Universal add Jetyres four retail branches to the companys existing portfolio of 12 tyre retail locations. With a combined total of 16 points of sale, Universal looks likely re-enter the UK top 20 in 2017 as a result of the transaction. No details of the levels of investment connected to Universals purchase of Jetyres have been released.

The Michelin tyre factory in Dundee is the city’s largest employer, and last year the tyre maker committed to a plant modernisation investment totalling more than £52 million. The funds cover the installation of new tyre building machinery that will boost production capacity by 30 per cent, electric curing presses and the erection of a new 20,000 square metre warehouse.

The first six months of 2016 have seen new car registrations grow by 3.2 per cent in total, with 1,420,636 registered so far, according to figures released today by SMMT. This represents the best half-year performance ever recorded, though demand has levelled off in recent months, culminating in a slight fall (-0.8 per cent) in June 2016.
