From 1 January 2017, BVF1RST, the wholesale arm of the Bandvulc Group will be the exclusive supplier of the Uniroyal truck tyre brand across the UK. Throughout 2016 Bandvulc has introduced a new generation of tyres. These meet the modern day needs of transport companies and provide consistent performance and safety for regional applications and long-distance routes. The new steer axle FH 40, drive axle DH 40 and trailer axle TH 40 tyres boast increased mileage, wet performance and reduced rolling resistance over predecessors.

‘Class of 2016’ graduates from Michelin Tyre Academy
Delegates from the Michelin Tyre Academy ‘Class of 2016’ flew to the company’s Clermont-Ferrand headquarters for the third and final module of the training course, and were rewarded for their dedication with a 4x4 driving experience on a mountain-top track. Six students from the Academy’s initial 2016 intake were selected for the module by their respective Michelin Auto Professional advocate programme tyre dealerships, which are also all part of the Michelin Certified Centre (MCC) network.

The companies worked together to design a bespoke solid tyre press for Continental Specialty Tyres in the UK and Ireland. The press was designed for use with industrial solid tyres, predominantly those fitted to material handling equipment such as fork lift trucks. Today, there are over 20 active Penny Hydraulics mobile presses in use throughout Continental’s Industrial Tyre Fitting Network.

GSF Car Parts has hosted its final customer event for 2016, with an evening dinner for around 100 people at Sulgrave Manor, the Tudor and Georgian house built by ancestors of first US President George Washington. Hosted by members of the GSF team, the group of area managers were kept busy cooking and catering to eager dinners, under the expert guidance of professional chefs. Accommodation was provided locally for those that wanted to stay – and the party lasted late into the evening.

RMI Bodyshops (NAB & VBRA), the UK’s trade association for vehicle repairers, has been notified by several of its members of an increase in prices by BSI (Business Standards Institute) in assessment and kitemark costs for the BS10125 standard. Many bodyshops have received a letter informing them of the price increases due to come into force in 2017. The average bodyshop will see an additional cost increase of around £350 a year.

Cooper Tire Europe opens new UK warehouse in Swindon
Cooper Tire Europe has opened a new 211,000sqft UK warehouse, with the capacity to store 400,000 tyres, in Swindon. Cooper stores Cooper and Avon brand tyres at the Spectrum Building, with the new facility already being fully operational. The Spectrum Building, designed by British architect Norman Foster, first opened in 1982 and was used as a backdrop in the James Bond film A View To A Kill in 1984.

Despite poor weather conditions, a total of 7,644 motorcycles were registered in November 2016 – a significant increase of 6,821 more bikes compared to November 2015. “It is positive to see that the motorcycle market has come back strong in November with sales up 12.1 per cent over the same period last year,” said Stephen Latham, head of the National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA).
