Toyo Proxes R888R becomes new BMW Z Cars series control tyre
Toyo Tires has been announced as the tyre supply partner to the new Z Cars Racing Series in 2017. The manufacturer will supply the Proxes R888R tyre, already present in a variety of British club motorsport series, to the busy grid of BMW Z3 and Z4 cars. Gary Feakins Racing (GFR) has partnered with MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR) to create what they hope will be an accessible, yet aspirational series. They hope it will provide a quality, yet affordable, grid and a stepping stone to higher formulae, such as GT racing.

Michelin SprayBib, XeoBib agricultural tyres to outlast Unimog sprayer’s 1st life in service
James L Welsh & Sons specified Michelin SprayBib and XeoBib tyres for its Unimog sprayer five years ago. Now the Ayrshire-based farmer and contractor predicts the tyres will outlast the machine’s first full life in service. The hard-working ex-demonstrator Mercedes-Benz Unimog U400 was supplied by South Cave Tractors and has clocked up more than 6,000 hours in operation – and still has approximately 40 per cent of tread depth left on each set of tyres.

CPD deadline prompts interest surge in GSF training solution
GSF Car Parts has seen a late spike in interest from garage technicians eager to comply with the new 2017 CPD requirements imposed on all MOT testers by DVSA, ahead of an end of March deadline. Under the changes, which come into effect for the first time this year, MOT testers will no longer need to attend the five-yearly refresher course but are instead now required to complete annual training and assessment.

Key personnel from invited supporting suppliers such as Banner, Sogefi, Brembo, Elstock, Schaeffler and Tetrosyl attended, though most of the travelling party were invited from GSF’s trade customer base of independent garages.

The three-year, price-per-kilometre Effitires deal replaces a transactional agreement with a competing premium tyre brand, and covers Openfield’s 36 Scania and Volvo trucks, plus a mixed fleet of 46 bulk tipper trailers.
