London not the most expensive city…for car repairs
That’s right, whatever stereotypes are associated with London, it is actually only the 4th most expensive city in the UK when it comes to car repairs. The data has been gathered by car servicing and repair comparison site Whocanfixmycar.com, who have studied over 320,000 quotes from garages all over the United Kingdom. The data has revealed the average cost of car repairs in our 20 biggest cities.

Motorists shouldn’t need to be reminded of this, but it seems they do – safety should be the primary concern when replacing tyres. This is the message from TyreSafe this Tyre Safety Month, and the organisation emphasises that although part-worn tyres may appear to be a cheaper option, numerous studies and investigations it and Trading Standards have carried out give reason to question the roadworthiness of these products. In the most recent actions, 93 per cent of part-worns inspected were sold illegally, and more than have possessed safety-critical faults.

New research by the National Tyre Distributor’s Association (NTDA) has found that 80 per cent of motorists would rather buy tyres in person from a tyre technician, instead of purchasing online. The survey was commissioned as part of the NTDA’s policy document Raising Standards and Improving Safety in the UK Tyre Industry. Further research from the survey also found that 85 per cent of motorists trust their tyre retailer and that 40 per cent purchase a tyre based on advice from a technician.

Tructyre sold to Michelin
Michelin has bought well-known truck tyre supplier and service provider Tructyre. Michelin representatives confirmed that the deal had taken place on 22 October, but no details of when it was signed or how much money is involved have yet been released. Tructyre currently runs 26 service centres across the UK, but mostly situated in the South East of England.

Complete road haulage specialist Fagan & Whalley has selected Hankook Tyre UK to supply tyres for its 164-strong fleet of Scania trucks and 342 trailers. The tyre maker shares that the Lancashire-based haulier chose Hankook after being offered a “complete tyre solution coupled with an unrivalled service and support package.” The Hankook SmartFlex AH31 will be fitted to all steer and lift axles in the Fagan & Whalley fleet, the SmartFlex DH31 fitment to all drive axles and the TH22 for all trailer fitments.
