Four mechanics have been given suspended sentences of up to 8 months and will have to pay nearly £20,000 in fines, after a Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) investigation found they were issuing fraudulent MOT certificates. Garage owner Mark Huckstepp, his son - also called Mark - and employees Anthony Hinds and Jagdeep Lotey all worked at Gallows Corner MOTs in Romford.

Alfred Graham will continue as president of the International Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ITMA) after he was re-elected to the ITMA presidency. The vote was called as Graham had served his two year period of office, following which the association’s constitution requires the presidential selection process to be initiated. However, he was unanimously re-elected at the association’s annual general meeting recently held in Spain where it was also agreed he would continue as ITMA’s director.

At its meeting ending on 1 November 2017, the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) voted by a majority of 7-2 to increase Bank Rate by 0.25 percentage points, to 0.5 per cent. The Committee voted unanimously to maintain the stock of sterling non-financial investment-grade corporate bond purchases, financed by the issuance of central bank reserves, at £10 billion. The Committee also voted unanimously to maintain the stock of UK government bond purchases, financed by the issuance of central bank reserves, at £435 billion.

Automotive parts distributor, Fast Parts Wales, will run an MOT Tester training course for technicians on 22 November. The MOT Tester Annual Assessment for Class 3, 4, 5 and 7 vehicles, run by WG Auto Training, offers full MOT annual training and continuing professional development, and will be held at Fast Parts’ branch in Abercarn. The course will meet the DVSA Record of Training’s syllabus criteria, which includes three hours of annual CPD training, the annual assessment and all certification.
