Car market stabilises in July
The UK new car market remained stable in July, with year-on-year demand growing by 1.2 per cent, according to the latest figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). 163,898 new cars were registered in the month as the market stabilised following a turbulent first six months.

According to the Department for Transport’s data, despite the UK’s cold weather and difficult road conditions from October through to March, it is actually July and August when tyre related accidents are at their most frequent.

EDT Automotive says that Barton Garages has achieved “incredible results” with its range of engine decontamination machines, becoming the EDT network’s highest performing garage-partner since joining in January. According to company co-director Tracey Barton, the Yelverton-based workshop was seeing an increasing number of customer vehicles which were suffering from a high concentration of carbon build-up, putting their engines under undue strain.

NTDA: EC anti-subsidy decision ‘no great surprise’
Following decisions on the part of the European Commission (EC) to review its Chinese truck tyre anti-dumping tariffs and to decide against implementing anti-subsidy remedies against Chinese-produced tyres for the time being, the industry itself has been responding to the news. For its part, the UK’s National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) was not shocked by the news that the EC is not planning to implement anti-subsidy (otherwise known as counter-veiling duties) and highlighted difficulties associated with their implementation.
