TyreSafe starts New Year in road safety with #DriveJanuary campaign
TyreSafe has started 2024 with a new social media campaign targeting a habitual change for improved road safety. Organised around the #DriveJanuary hashtag, a play on the famous #DryJanuary health and wellbeing initiative, the organisation is using the opportunity of people setting resolutions for the New Year to ask drivers to add monthly tyre checks to their list of behavioural changes. TyreSafe’s 2023 Tread Depth Survey reveals that almost half the UK cars on the road have low or illegal tread. For more detail, see our sister site for consumers, WhatTyre.

Backing the right sustainability horse
In recent years market observers have worn out the word unprecedented, but 2023 was another year of significant developments. From the ongoing impact of the Russia-Ukraine war and the continuing challenges of pandemic-related disruption to the transformation and rationalisation of European manufacturing that has followed in its wake, several stories have run and run because of their multi-faceted repercussions for the whole tyre business. In short, for some it was a good year. Straightset upgrades Helensburgh Toyota’s Workshop
At the start of 2023, Toyota GB approached Straightset with a challenge: take an old but high-performing dealership in Scotland and completely overhaul its equipment and workshop space to create a service fit for the future. Helensburgh sits on the Firth of Clyde, near Dumbarton, and its Toyota garage has faithfully served the community for some 45 years. However, it was looking dated, with poor use of space, uneven floors and tired staff facilities. The time had come for a major makeover.

Spectacular growth in UK van mileage
A review of the van sector has revealed incredible growth. Over the past decade, the UK has experienced a staggering 35 per cent increase in van traffic, resulting in a record-breaking 57.5 billion vehicle miles travelled by vans in 2022. For context, that’s like circling the globe an astounding 2.3 million times, or once every 15 seconds. Research conducted by Go.Compare Van Insurance shows that the average van owner travels 12,500 miles over the year, emphasising van drivers significant role in the country’s transportation network. The study raises questions about the impact this record-breaking mileage has on the condition of the average van.
