Brexit planning nearly halves UK car production
UK car manufacturing output plummeted in April, with figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showing it was down -44.5 per cent year-on-year. 70,971 cars rolled off production lines in the month, as factory shutdowns, rescheduled to mitigate against the expected uncertainty of a 29 March Brexit, took effect in many plants across the UK.

Dunlop brings new slick tyre to Isle of Man TT
Dunlop will bring a new version of its KR 108 slick tyre to the Isle of Man TT (IOMTT), as it seeks a continuation to its success at the event. Developed over the winter at a range of test circuits, including a final validation at the traditional pre-IOMTT test at the Castle Combe Circuit, the KR 108 has been designed to heat up faster and give the rider more grip and confidence at the start of the race.

Sales of motorcycles continued to rise in April, according to figures released by the Motor Cycle Industry Association. April sales were up 7.3 per cent against April 2018, and 9.4 per cent up in the year-to-date. In total, 36,951 bikes have been put on UK roads so far 2019, up by 3,188 registrations compared to 2018.

Continental wins inaugural Tyre Industry Environmental & Sustainable Solution Award
The Worshipful Company of Wheelwrights has named Continental Tyre Group Ltd the inaugural winners of the Tyre Industry Environmental & Sustainable Solution Award. The accolade was presented at the Worshipful Company of Wheelwrights White Tie Banquet. The independent judging panel looked for entries to show evidence of materially reducing the environmental impact of tyres and production over the product’s entire lifespan, whilst promoting sustainability and bringing environmental benefits to both business and wider society. Conti’s marketing director Tracey Mortimer said the award was “a huge honour,” which “highlights Continental’s commitment to environmental consideration.”

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service will move its heavy fire appliances to a 100 per cent Michelin policy, after testing demonstrated the tyres could outperform its existing competitor fitments. The service called on Michelin to demonstrate the capabilities of its 315/70 R 22.5 X Multi Z tyre, as it explored options for replacing its existing policy, which was not delivering on longevity.
