Yokohama is to supply tyres to Heathrow-based Rushlift Ltd for its 450 strong fleet of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) based at Gatwick Airport. Operating in the second-busiest airport in the UK, Ruslift have selected Yokohama’s BluEarth-Van RY55 and Geolandar G015 A/T tyres.

Findings of the latest NAMA market attitude survey show that the general feeling continues to be that the Euro 6 van market will remain strong. Nearly half of respondents (46 per cent) expect Euro 6 van values to increase and the same percentage believe they will stay stable. By contrast, over half of respondents expect values to decline in the pre euro 6 van market. “NAMA members expect the Euro 6 van market to stay strong as Government clean air policies encourage businesses to purchase these vehicles” said Louise Wallis, head of the National Association of Motor Auctions (NAMA).

UK new car registrations declined for a fourth consecutive month in June, with year-on-year demand falling by -4.9 per cent to 223,421 units, according to the latest figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). 1,269,245 new cars joined British roads in the first half of the year, down -3.4 per cent as ongoing confusion over low emission zones and diesel, the removal of key ultra low emission vehicle incentives and an overall decline in buyer confidence affected the market.

Toyo partnering Tough Mudder in Italy
Toyo Tires has partnered Tough Mudder in Germany and Great Britain since 2018. Now the tyre manufacturer has announced that it is expanding its partnership with Tough Mudder by extending its 2019 deal into Italy. As a result, Toyo will be an official partner for both of the inaugural Italian events on September 14/15 in Milan as well as on October 26/27 in Rome.

According to MarketLine, which produces its data in US-dollars across all markets worldwide, this means the UK automotive aftermarket was and is worth $28.5 billion (£22.53 billion) a year. However, the same research suggests that the value of the UK automotive aftermarket sector is increasing and in 2023 is forecast to be worth $34.4 billion (£27.2 billion), up 20.7 per cent compared with 2018.

The call came as the trade body published a new report highlighting the importance of automotive trade to the UK economy and the high stakes of a ‘no deal’ Brexit. SMMT’s 2019 UK Automotive Trade Report calculates that delays to production caused by friction at the border could add up to £50,000 a minute for the sector.
