SMMT: UK car production declines 3.8% in September
Figures released by the Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that UK car production resumed its downward trend in September, with output falling 3.8 per cent to round off a turbulent first nine months. Production during the month totalled 122,256 units, almost 5,000 fewer than September last year.

UK commercial vehicle production down 11.7% in September
A total of 7,320 commercial vehicles were produced in UK factories in September, reports the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). This figure represents an 11.7 per cent year-on-year decline compared with September 2018. Output for crucial overseas markets was up some 25.4 per cent, but production for the domestic market fell -44.5 per cent in the face of ongoing political and economic uncertainty.

WJ&J Green signs 5-year Michelin tyre management, telematics contract
Moray-based bulk haulier WJ&J Green has signed a five-year Michelin EffiTires tyre management contract. The deal, which includes the roll-out of Michelin’s EffiTrailer telematics system, marks a return to a 100 per cent Michelin policy across the truck and trailer fleet, after a decade of fitting a variety of tyre brands.

Michelin is the most search tyre brand on Google in Europe, according to price comparison site Rezulteo. Rezulteo studied the popularity of tyre brands in Europe using Google search volume data for tyre manufacturers in each country from 1 August 2018 to 31 July 2019. The study took “brand name” + “tyre” queries in the official languages of each European country into account.

UK, European CV registrations drop in September
Commercial vehicle registrations dropped both in the UK and the EU in September, according to figures published by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA). Total commercial new commercial vehicle registrations in the UK fell 22.0 per cent year-on-year to 47,074 units. This was the largest decline seen in a major market, and no doubt driven in part by continued Brexit uncertainty. Across the EU as a whole, total new commercial vehicle registrations decreased 10.0 per cent year-on-year to 191,588 units.
