UK SUV sales top 1 million in 2023
SUV sales in the UK have increased by 23 per cent since 2022, according to Transport & Environment analysis of Dataforce data. In 2022, the number of new SUVs (sports utility vehicles) registered stood at 910,000 but now that number has grown by a third and stands at 1.12 million. In 2021, 50 per cent of all new car registrations were SUVs. In 2022, that figure stood at 57 per cent. And in 2023, that rose again to 60 per cent. If the trend continues, in 2027 SUV registrations could make up 75 per cent of new registrations.

BMTR Birmingham has secured a double victory in Pirelli’s UK retail network awards. The West Midlands retailer was awarded Pirelli Performance Centre (PPC) of the Year and Pirelli’s 4x4 Key Dealer of the Year, recognising BMTRs “exceptional commitment to excellence and outstanding service in the automotive industry,” according to Pirelli. This is the fifth time BMTR have been crowned PPC of the Year. Chris Woodhall, sales director at BMTR, said the awards were “a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of our entire team.” Pirelli UK CEO, Livio Magni, said that the company applauds BMTR “for achieving this accolade for the fifth time. BMTR Birmingham has demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence in all areas of their business, from customer service to technical expertise.”

Bridgestone EMEA retail network: record number of female customers
Bridgestone’s retail network in the EMEA region has recorded a 55 per cent increase in female footfall, year on year. Within the UK market , the company’s ETB Autocentres network says it has doubled its customer base of female motorists. President retail EMEA and business leader global Franchise Daniel Giroud said the figures mirrored a gender-shifting pattern across its network of over 3,400 stores, where the number of female staff – including technicians and managers – has increased in recent years. The company expects this evolution to continue growing significantly in future. The company revealed the increase on Friday 8 March, coinciding with International Women’s Day.

The UK new car market has recorded its best February performance for two decades as registrations rose 14.0 per cent to 84,886 units, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. It was the 19th month of consecutive growth, which has primarily been driven by fleets investing in the latest vehicles. Indeed, fleets and businesses were responsible for the entirety of February’s increase, with registrations up 25.2 per cent and 15.5 per cent respectively. Private uptake continued to struggle, with a -2.6 per cent decline to record a 33.7 per cent market share. February is traditionally volatile as the lowest volume month of the year, with buyers often electing to wait until March and the new number plate.
