Bridgestone Tyre Industry Awards double ‘a huge coup’
The two Tyre Industry Awards presented to Bridgestone during the National Tyre Distributors Associations 7 October ceremony represent a “huge coup” for the company according to Andrea Manenti, North Europe region vice president. The manufacturer said the awards were the result of its recently launched “best-in-class new products” and its “commitment to a sustainable future and staff training.” Bridgestone was presented with the Staff Training & Development accolade and the headline Tyre Manufacturer of the Year award – the fourth time they have triumphed in the category since 2015 – at a packed International Convention Centre in Birmingham.

BA Bush & Son has continued to progress its expansion plans with the acquisition of Rotherham based tyre company Allround Tyres. As the latest part of the tyre distribution and servicing group, BA Bush said the company will continue to offer tyres, exhausts, and batteries as well as vehicle servicing, repairs, diagnostics, and MOTs. Allround Tyres also offers a mobile fitting service to the local area.

Pirelli is raising awareness to the trade of tyres being offered with the barcodes partially or fully removed or made illegible. The alteration and modification of these barcodes is not authorised by Pirelli, under any circumstances. Pirelli is “strongly recommending” to its partners and dealers to not trade in any Pirelli tyres where the barcode has been “removed, altered or made illegible (either fully or partially)”.

The Office National Statistics (ONS) has reported a record number of job vacancies in July to September 2021 – 1,102 million in total, an increase of 318,000 from its pre-pandemic January to March 2020 level. This was the second consecutive month the three-month average has risen over one million. And what’s more, vacancies for roles related to mechanical repair were amongst the leading sectors.

The DPD/Enso trial is a part of Transport for Londons FreightLab Innovation Challenge, which is encouraging innovations that will tackle Londons air pollution and road congestion due to increased freight movement in the Greater London area. The London FreightLab Innovation Challenge is backed by the Mayor of London and Enso is based in London.

In the headline awards, Merityre was made the Overall Tyre Retailer of the Year, sponsored by Pirelli Tyres, Bridgestone took first place in Tyre Manufacturer of the Year, sponsored by The Commercial Vehicle Show, while Stapleton’s Tyre Services became 2021’s Tyre Wholesaler of the Year, sponsored by Compilator / Team Systems. Giti Tire manager - EU Testing Centre and Motorsport UK, Martin Gibson will enter the penultimate round of the 2021 British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) second in the title race, trailing the leader by only one point. Gibson secured the highest points tally at Snetterton, taking him to 254, after securing two victories, two third places, a sixth-place finish and two fastest laps across five races on the 2.9-mile circuit. His partner at Giti Tire Motorsport, Stuart Oliver secured second in race five to ensure a one-two finish. He also came third, fourth place twice and fifth.
