Marangoni renames Marix truck retreads
Marangoni has adopted a new naming system for its retreaded truck tyres marketed under the Marix brand. According to the company, the new codes used to identify these products give operators immediate information on the application and type of tyre. Company representatives report that this is not a new policy, but rather represents the completion of a process that has already been underway for some time.

This autumn Marangoni Retreading Systems will launch a new product range it says will be “a real alternative” to premium new tyres. The Ringtread Black Line line-up, the Italian manufacturer shares, is the result of “massive investments by Marangoni in the most modern mixing and ‘moulding’ technologies to ensure extremely efficient and automated production.”

Dunlop Aircraft Tyres is to benefit from BAE Systems’ £1.9 billion deal to sell Hawk training jets to Saudi Arabia. According to the company, 22 Hawks will be built in Lancashire and supplied with tyres made by Dunlop Aircraft Tyres in Birmingham. The company, the world’s only specialist aircraft tyre manufacturer and retreader, already provides tyres for the 45 Hawks already in service with the Royal Saudi Air Force. Each aircraft uses three tyres – two on the main gear and one on the nose gear – and once the Saudis take delivery of the new aircraft the country will be the world’s second largest operator of the type after the UK.

Continental AG is investing in a hot retreading production plant in Western Europe, the company has announced. A statement explained that this decision aims to underline the “great importance of retreading business for Continental” and adds weight to its ContiLifeCycle concept. No details of the amount of investment have been released. The location of the new production site will be announced at a later date.

Business minister Mark Prisk MP visited Michelin’s Campbell Road, Stoke-on-Trent Remix truck tyre retread plant today (23 May) and acknowledged its modernisation and the completion of the introduction of the first phase of Michelin Durable Technologies retreading there. The minister literally signed-off the first four tyres to roll off the new production line after they passed the inspection process. Prisk was there to see how £20 million of investment has been used to upgrade machinery and equipment.

1,200 items of Manchester-based contract hire and leasing specialist, BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions are now covered by a contract with Vacu-Lug Tyres. The leasing firm has signed a managed Pay-As-You-Go which includes both light and heavy trucks and specifies the fitment of Pirelli steering axle tyres and Vacu-Lug Duramold tyres on drive and trailer axles. ATS Euromaster will operate as Vacu-Lug's service partner on this nationwide contract.

Rubber and retreading materials manufacturer Kraiburg Austria posted sales of over 108 million euros in 2011, the highest sales figures in the 50 years since the company’s foundation. According to the Kraiburg, the retreading business accounted for a good 65 per cent of the sales. As a result Kraiburg Austria has returned to pre-crisis levels it was achieving in 2008.

Netherlands-based wholesaler Heuver Banden is introducing a ‘second life’ for Aeolus tyres in the markets where it represents the Chinese tyre maker. The company has released its first retreaded Aeolus tyre, the mould cure retreaded Eco-Twin trailer tyre in size 385/65R22.5. Heuver says the use of high quality Aeolus casings ensures excellent performance for the tyre’s second life, along with reduced operating costs.

Despite a marked trend towards increased industrialisation, business remains good for medium-sized retreaders in Germany. A good example of the companies within this segment, who promise quality through their own brands and have secured market position through a shift to higher-margin products over a number of years, is Respa GmbH. The retreader from Passau, near the border between Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic, is today one of only a few remaining high-profile passenger car tyre retreaders in Germany, and the company has established for itself a substantial market position in both the mould cure and precure retreading sectors. During a plant visit, Respa managing director Ferdinand Wenzl spoke with Tyres & Accessories about “an industry that is rich in variety.”

Mexican supplier of rubber materials for retreading, Galgo has announced the installation of a new internal Farrel Banbury F270 mixer. The US-manufactured mixer will allow the company to obtain fully consistent blends with the better dispersion of carbon black in a quicker mixing time, according to the company. Galgo supplies Pre-Q treads, cushions in different forms, and extrusion and strips for a variety of rubber products for different uses and applications.
