Vipal Rubber has marked its 15-year partnership with exclusive South African distributor of repair products, Tyre & Retread Supplies (TRS), with a commemorative plaque. Dijan Rigo, commercial coordinator of Vipal Overseas delivered the plaque to Morne Goosen, TRS management at the distributer’s headquarters in Johannesburg.

Global retreading supplier Vipal Rubber’s VT110 tread has been approved in Romania following trials conducted by fleet operator Senidav Trans SRL. The Eastern European fleet company carried out performance tests using retreaded tyres with the VT110, recording favourable results against a competitor brand. Measurements were recorded by Vipal’s Moldovan partner, Tehno Profil, after 260,000km on Romanian roads, which present adverse track conditions, with mountains, slopes, snow, and other problems.

Dunlop Aircraft Tyres Ltd (DATL) is planning to invest 1 trillion rupiah (£54.14 million; 64 million euros; US$70.92 million) in an aircraft tyre retreading factory in Karawang, West Java, Indonesia. According to several local news sources, the retreading factory will be followed by a new aircraft tyre production plant as well.

Retreading machinery manufacturer TRM reports that it has just delivered “the most modern OTR retread plant” to Kal Tire Mexico operation. The factory, located in the desert of Sonora, close to the biggest open-pit copper mine in Mexico and one of the largest mines in the world, was put in operation via the collaboration of Kal Tire’s Mexican field team TRM’s technical team.

92 per cent of end of life tyres (ELTs) were collected and treated for material recycling and energy recovery in 2017, according to data covering 32 European countries, consolidated by the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA). This figure shows continuity with previous years’ data, which fluctuates between 93 and 95 per cent. The remaining 8 per cent could not be tracked, ETRMA states. The figure includes data from the 28 countries in the European Union, plus Norway, Serbia, Switzerland, and Turkey.
