No compromise in the cold – Sportauto tests all-season tyres
When Sportauto tested examined five brands of size 215/40 R18 summer tyres earlier this year, it tested them alongside an all-season model. This premium all-season product struggled against the summer tyres in temperatures well above the 20-degree mark, leading the motoring publication to conclude that “the all-season tyre is just a compromise” in summer conditions, especially when paired with sport cars such as the Hyundai i20 N it used for testing. Sportauto still holds this opinion, but it has now decided to test six of these “compromise” tyres – again in size 215/40 R18 – to answer a couple of important questions.

In the USA, Pirelli has recalled 3100 Pirelli and Metzeler-branded motorbike tyres due to manufacturing issue that could result in tread separation. 100 per cent of the 150/70 R18 M/C 70V Metzeler Tourance Next; 150/70 R18 M/C 70V Metzeler Tourance Next II; 150/70 R18 M/C 70W Metzeler Tourance Next II; and 150/70 R18 M/C 70V Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tyres produced between a total production period that covers a maximum range of 30 November 2016 to 11 June 2024 are said to be affected.
