Smart #1 arrives on Continental tyres
Smart Automobile has unveiled the #1, a full-electric five-seater with a range of up to 273 miles. Official launch photos suggest that smart will offer all four models in the #1 range – the Launch Edition, Pro+, Premium and Brabus – with Continental tyres as a standard fitment. Images issued by the media team at smart Europe GmbH depict various versions of #1 equipped with Continental EcoContact 6 Q tyres in 235/45 R19 V XL.

Triangle Tyre has signed an exclusive Great Britain distribution agreement with the island’s largest tyre wholesaler, Stapleton’s Tyre Services. The deal means Stapleton’s gets sole distribution rights for Triangle branded passenger car and van tyres within Great Britain, building on the strengthening relationship between the two companies. In recent years, Stapleton’s has become the largest distributor of Triangle products in Europe.

The winter tyre tests conducted by European motoring associations this year include several recommendable, solidly performing products, as well as a few poor results. Testers looked at 33 tyres in the small car size 185/65 R15 and SUV fitment 215/60 R16. Reporting the results, they particularly encourage buyers to “take a close look at braking distances and wear” before choosing a tyre.

Nexen Tire has become an original equipment supplier for the third-generation BMW X1 and the all-electric iX1. The tyre maker’s plant in Žatec, Czech Republic will manufacture a version of the Nexen N’Fera Sport tailored to meet BMW’s requirements for the compact SUVs. Nexen has not specified the tyre sizes it is supplying to BMW.

During the recent IAA 2022 truck event in Germany, Chinese tyremaker Prinx Chengshan released its TH155 truck tyre pattern. The new trailer hybrid, OE oriented tyre is described as having “outstanding overall performance”, something that is attested by its “A” and “B” ratings for wet grip and fuel consumption on the European tyre label (in 385/65 R22.5). The tyre will be marketed under the Austone ATH155 and Fortune FTH155 brand names.

Kumho Tyre (UK) supported the Max Adventure team as it beat its original time target on the Driven To Extremes Euro EV Marathon. The team covered its 3,174 mile-route from Oslo to Portugal in just 3.75 days in the fully electric Kia EV6 ‘Air’ fitted with Kumho’s Ecsta PS71 EV tyre. The team knocked 47 minutes off the time set by Sir Stirling Moss in 1952, adding an extra country to the list of those visited. The challenge was designed to show that a standard EV and current charging infrastructure can now allow drivers to cover vast distances in a short time. The Kumho Ecsta PS71 EV is an original fitment on the Kia EV6, with the 235/55R19 size used by the challenge car throughout the trial.

MAN Truck & Bus and Michelin have announced a new training partnership at Hanover’s IAA Transportation show. From January 2023, Michelin will begin a three-year global cooperation with MAN ProfiDrive, the driver training programme from the Munich-based firm. MAN said that Michelin’s commitment to sustainable motoring made the tyre manufacturer a good choice of partner. The programme trains commercial vehicle drivers in the safe operation of safety and assistance systems, fuel-efficient driving, and the use of telematics services, as well as other topics relevant to fleet managers and entrepreneurs in the transport sector.
