Details of the first wave of the EffeXSport product line-up were released at the end of the first quarter and explain that the initial range is made up of 54 sizes ranging from 16 to 20 inches. Those products were already available back in March. Moving forward, a further 50 sizes will be added by the end of the year. What we now know is that the overall range will be more than half A-rated on the European tyre label. On 13 July, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and the Center of Automotive Management (CAM) bestowed the AutomotiveINNOVATIONS Award 2023 in the ‘Chassis, Car Body & Exterior’ category upon Michelin for its road-approved car tyres containing 45 per cent sustainable materials. A jury composed of seasoned figures from the industry, the world of science and consulting, as well as specialist media selected Michelin for the award.

The system uses advanced sensor technology to elevate vehicle safety and performance, making the vehicle acceptance and return process more efficient. The testing organisation says the DVS enables accurate diagnosis and timely maintenance recommendations, which can improve overall safety and efficiency. The Goodyear CheckPoint drive-over tyre inspection system reads tyre condition and vehicle parameters, sending actionable insights to fleet managers. It streamlines tyre pressure and tread depth inspection by providing automated inspections completed within seconds.

Fitting Michelin X Works tyres across its fleet has allowed concrete, mortar and screed supplier, Eco-Readymix, to record a reduction in tyre damage and downtime, it says. The company has fitted Michelin Remix X Works XDY 315/80 R22.5 on the drive axle and X Works HD Z 315/80 R22.5 on the steer axle of its vehicles as it transitions its entire 30-strong fleet to Michelin tyres.

Following the pattern set by the Pilot Sport 4 and, for even sportier vehicles, the Pilot Sport 4 S, Michelin is following-up the launch of the Pilot Sport 5 with the introduction of the Pilot Sport S 5. The new product is currently listed as available in 10 sizes, eight are associated with original equipment identifiers – AML (Aston Martin), ND0 (Porsche) and MO1 (Mercedes-Benz), according to the Michelin website. However, as our colleagues at Reifenpresse.de point out, two fitments come without such OE-specific references: 245/40 R21 96Y and 275/35 R21 99Y.

One of the key messages the Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. announced at its recent Nurburgring event was that they tyremaker is applying a new “E+” mark to its passenger cars, from the second half of 2023. An official announcement from Yokohama Rubber’s Japanese headquarters has since confirmed that the same marking will also be applied to trucks and buses equipped with the same properties required by electrified vehicles. That 12 July official statement specifies that the term “Electrified vehicles” includes battery electric vehicles (BEVs), electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). In other words, the new E+ marking is Yokohama’s bid to bring clarity to exactly what an electric vehicle (EV) tyre is.

TreadReader HD (Heavy Duty) is a compact, easy-to-use device which provides full-width tread depth analysis and creates a detailed scan of each tyre to within 0.2mm.
