Davanti launches Protoura Race, the brand’s first track tyre
Davanti Tyres has launched its first semi-slick track tyre, the Protoura Race. The tyre, designed to offer the power and handling to achieve podium results, was tested at Applus IDIADA and Calafat Circuit in Spain, as well as at the UK’s Formula One host circuit, Silverstone. Its features include a directional tread pattern for superior wet control, enhanced carcass strength for more driver feedback and control under high cornering forces experienced on race tracks; a new compound to provide the grip required for faster acceleration and harder braking; and a road-legal, semi-slick tread design to allow amateur racers to drive to and from the track. Davanti adds that the tyre will be available in sizes between 13” and 18”.

Maxion Wheels debuts low CO2 Bionic
Maxion Wheels has launched its latest light vehicle wheel innovation, Maxion Bionic, at IAA Mobility 2023. When it comes to market in 2025, Bionic will be available in 18-inch and larger diameter sizes and customisable finishing. Maxion also speaks of utilising the lowest CO2 primary materials and optimised aerodynamics, as well as “revolutionary design options.”

VW ID. Buzz gives Giti Tire first European electric vehicle OE fitment
The award-winning VW ID. Buzz will roll off production lines on the GitiSynergyH2, as tyre manufacturer Giti Tire secures its first European electric vehicle (EV) original equipment homologation. The ID. Buzz will fit 235/60 R18 (front) and 255/55 R18 (rear) tyres, and is being produced in Hannover, Germany near Giti Tire’s European Research & Development Centre, where the tyre was designed. The ID. Buzz was recently named Overall Winner and Best Large Electric Car at the What Car? Car of the Year Awards 2023. The tyre has won previous original equipment contracts for Volkswagen Group combustion-engine powered vehicles.

Pirelli tyres for VW ID. GTI Concept
Volkswagen says the ID. GTI Concept show car it is presenting for the first time at the IAA Mobility in Munich provides a “concrete insight” into how it will transport the GTI label into the “electric future”. Based on the ID. 2all1 presented in March – a future electric compact car expected to cost around 25,000 euros – VW considers the ID. GTI Concept to be “more than just a show car.”

IAA Mobility: Conti CityPlus Concept offers 10% energy efficiency increase
Continental has unveiled its new Conti CityPlus concept at the IAA Mobility event. According to the Hanover-based tyremaker, this state-of-the-art tyre technology increases the total energy efficiency of a tyre by up to 10 per cent. The results are said to be “lower CO2 emissions from passenger cars with combustion engines and longer driving ranges for electric vehicles.” This was achieved by optimising the tyre behaviour during stop-and-go traffic in urban driving situations, increasing the range of passenger cars by up to 3 per cent as a result. This corresponds to a saving of 0.6 kWh per 100 kilometres for electric vehicles.
