Enviro develops ‘improved’ rCB
Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) reports having developed a new type of recovered carbon black with improved dispersion properties. It developed this new type of carbon black to meet demand from the tyre and rubber industry and has produced the material at its plant in Åsensbruk, Sweden ”for some time” now.

The verdict is now out on the 20 finalists in the Auto Bild 2023 winter tyre test. While the Auto Bild test team found that most of these size 225/45 R18 tyres offered “really good performance” when snow and ice were present, the picture looked different when testing in conditions that motorists more typically encounter. They observed “surprisingly large differences in performance potential” on wet and dry roads and gave only three tyres their top ‘exemplary’ rating. One of the 20 receives a non-recommendation.

Metzeler reports that the successor to its Roadtec 01 is now in the final stages of development and testing and will arrive from January 2024. This is the Metzeler Roadtec 02, and the manufacturer claims a further raising of the “bar of sportiness” with a ‘Super Sport Touring’ tyre that offers new levels of handling and grip on wet surfaces. Metzeler also ticks the sustainability box by utilising a “high percentage” of natural origin and recycled materials.

As promised, Auto Bild has further tested the 16 tyres remaining in its 2023 all-season test following the elimination of 19 products whose combined wet and dry braking distances didn’t make the grade. The motoring publication’s test team gave five of the size 225/45 R17 tyres their highest ‘exemplary’ rating and they declared a further three ‘good’ tyres. The remaining eight products finished testing with ‘satisfactory’ or ‘conditionally recommended’ ratings.

Hankook Tire has entered into a partnership with automotive tuning company Brabus, making the tyre maker an official technology partner. While one goal of this cooperation is for Hankook to develop customised tyres for Brabus, the German firm will initially equip its cars with Hankook Ventus S1 evo3 and Ventus S1 evo Z tyres in rim diameters up to 23-inches. For customers specifying winter tyres, Brabus will offer the Hankook Winter i*cept evo 3.

Falken Tyre Europe has launched the Wildpeak R/T01 rugged terrain tyre, a new flagship expanding its 4x4 tyre portfolio for demanding off-road applications. The new tyre means the Sumitomo Rubber Industries global flagship tyre brand now has a tyre for every off-road application. The company states that the R/T01 was “engineered with adventure in mind”; the tyre’s tread design and structure promote high traction performance in the most difficult conditions. Falken will distribute the Wildpeak R/T01 from the first quarter of 2024 with an initial range of nine sizes, ranging from 16 to 20 inches, with a speed rating of Q. The Wildpeak R/T01’s designation as a professional off-road tyre (POR) means it has no further EU tyre labelling information.
