Bosch recommends MAM CarSide app
MAM Software has announced that Bosch UK is recommending MAM CarSide to its network of Bosch Car Service Centres. The new vehicle health check (eVHC) mobile app will sync with BCS Online, the Bosch recommended garage management system powered by MAM Software. Hosted in the cloud, BCS Online is a feature-rich browser-based garage management system that manages and optimises every-day workshop tasks.

The AA reports that it is the latest motoring organisation to be trialling the use of a 'universal spare wheel'. At the same time the company revealed data relating to spare tyre usage. A survey of 22,827 AA members revealed that close to a fifth (17 per cent) of members do not have a spare wheel in their car. The innovative wheel fits the majority of modern cars with a five-stud wheel. The 17” alloy uses a system of special adaptors of ten different sizes to find the best fit.

Hofmann Power Weight has released a new black coloured knock-on weight 161. The company says the weight is a tried and tested top-seller, but the new addition of black powder coating means the zinc weight appears almost invisible when fitted. It adds that the weight’s “premium coating” gives the weight “optimum corrosion resistance”.

No dinosaurs went into the production of a tyre Sumitomo Rubber Industries will launch at the Tokyo Motor Show – some 12 years after it began working to reduce fossil fuel content in its products, the Japanese company is now ready to roll out its first 100 per cent fossil fuel-free tyre. And when the show begins on 23 November, visitors won’t just be looking at another concept tyre – Sumitomo says it is gearing up to introduce this milestone in its Enasave programme into the domestic market. The new tyre will be sold under the Dunlop brand name.

A third tyre has been added to Pirelli’s trailer and semi-trailer line-up. The new ST:01 Base joins the ST:01 Neverending and Formula Trailer to round out the Italian tyre maker’s range for this market; with the commercial launch of the ST:01 Base in July, Pirelli says its trailer and semi-trailer portfolio now covers “every need from every haulier” and caters to varied priorities, including mileage and retreadability, low rolling resistance or durability – Pirelli says it now offers an answer to each of these.

TTC is promoting its “Checkpoint” wheel safety indicators to distributors and fleet operators. The latest development is that TTC is offering special size-specific versions of its product. A variety of sizes of wheel nut are commonly referred to as "27mm". However, the sizes actually range from 26.6mm, 26.7mm, 26.8mm all the way to 26.9mm with the larger sizes being fitted to the DAF45 range.

Two papers delivered at the end of the tyre-based segment of the International Rubber Research and Development Board's International Rubber Conference 2013 focused on rubber technologies helping to create the next wave of green tyres. Dr Stuart Cook, the director of research at TAARC, gave a brief history of the research centre’s development of Ekoprena, starting with Michelin’s identification of the first “green tyre” back in 1992, while Sumitomo's Kozaburo Nakaseko indicated the corporation's intention to launch a "fossil fuel free tyre" in the second half of 2013, mixing "epoxidised natural rubber" with a more highly refined rubber product.

This was the first time the magazine has invited its readers to vote on tyres alongside their favourite vehicles, and the Goodyear tyre beat all the other products to the inaugural edition of this honour.

Hankook unveiled several new commercial tyres at the CV Show, including the bead to bead retread truck tyre the Alphatread. Additionally Hankook’s latest truck tyres, which aim to fill a gap it identifies between medium and long haul transportation, were displayed, while the brand raised interest in its stand through its sporting sponsorships. Tom May and Phil Dowson, players from Northampton Saints RFC visited the stand, while Hankook also ran a competition to win VIP tickets to football’s Europa League semi-final, a partnership that was announced at last year’s show.
