Apollo Tyres signs distribution partnership with GEFCO
Apollo Tyres has agreed a distribution deal with GEFCO to supply tyres to customers in France. According to the company, Apollo Tyres began integrating GEFCO into its supply chain in May. Since then, the partnership has reportedly cut average lead times to under four days and improved the overall ordering and delivery experience for customers.

Yokohama has unveiled the new Geolandar CV 4S, a comprehensive all-season tyre for crossover SUVs. The demands on tyres for SUVs are varied and challenging, as they need to be able to take on all road types and all-weather conditions, such as arid dryness, rainy spells and challenging snow. Yokohama states that the new tyre recognises this demand for versatility and practicality in its development of the “innovative” Geolandar CV 4S. Following its launch in October, the Geolandar CV 4S will make its debut in the UK and Europe. Yokohama will roll out the tyre in a range of 32 sizes, for rim sizes between 17” and 20”.

Production of Continental agricultural tyres had been carried out by Czech tyre maker Mitas from 2004, when it acquired the license, and had been due to continue until 2019. However, the acquisition of Mitas by agricultural tyre manufacturer Trelleborg Wheel Systems meant the Continental brand became surplus to requirements. Conti saw this as an early opportunity to re-enter the lucrative, high-technology agricultural tyre segment with a premium brand intended to compete at the top of the European segment and manufactured at the Continental Mabor plant in Lousado, Portugal with the help of an initial 50-million-euro investment and the recruitment of a manufacturing and R&D team.

Ascenso Tyres research & development manager Abhishek Kumar has visited the brand’s UK tyre distributor BAB Distribution, wholesale division of the BA Bush & Son Ltd Group, and key Ascenso OE2 partners, looking ahead to the development of future tyre products. The visit enabled the Ascenso team to demonstrate its willingness to listen and adapt tyres based on feedback from dealers and end users. There was also plenty of positive feedback from customers on the existing tyre range’s performance BAB Distribution told Tyrepress.

Toyo Tires has extended its all-terrain tyre range for North America to include a tyre aimed at electric trucks and SUVs. The tyre maker designed and is manufacturing the Toyo Open Country A/T III EV in the USA and plans to offer “a wide range of unique sizes and high-load combinations for 18- to 24-inch wheel diameters.” No word from Toyo so far about a UK or European launch.

Falken Tyre Europe has launched the Wildpeak R/T01 rugged terrain tyre, a new flagship expanding its 4x4 tyre portfolio for demanding off-road applications. The new tyre means the Sumitomo Rubber Industries global flagship tyre brand now has a tyre for every off-road application. The company states that the R/T01 was “engineered with adventure in mind”; the tyre’s tread design and structure promote high traction performance in the most difficult conditions. Falken will distribute the Wildpeak R/T01 from the first quarter of 2024 with an initial range of nine sizes, ranging from 16 to 20 inches, with a speed rating of Q. The Wildpeak R/T01’s designation as a professional off-road tyre (POR) means it has no further EU tyre labelling information.

With the manufacturers latest Dueler all-terrain tyre coming into the market in 2023, Bridgestone’s consumer sales director Brett Emerson has given some insight into how Bridgestone is developing its 4x4 tyre range with consumers and the wide variety of application mixes within this segment. Starting from the point of view that “no two 4x4 enthusiasts are the same,” Emerson explains the importance of “factoring in how much all-terrain driving” drivers will do and “how much is mud related.” The manufacturer, alongside the First Stop retail network, wants to help fit the tyre with the right performance characteristics to customers’ vehicles, Emerson continues.
