Hankook wins BMW SUV fitment
Hankook has won an SUV original equipment fitment deal with BMW. The tyre manufacturer will supply a newly developed SUV version of its flagship ultra high performance tyre, the Ventus S1 evo2, to the third generation X5. Hankook plans to launch the tyre, which will be manufactured mainly at its Hungarian facility, on replacement markets in spring 2014.

Conti enlarges pre-cure tread portfolio
Ten new products are joining the ContiTread pre-cure retread portfolio. The first of these is the M+S marked LDR 1+ drive axle tread; fives sizes are available –205/75 R 17.5, 215/75 R 17.5, 225/75 R 17.5, 235/75 R 17.5 and 245/70 R 17.5. Continental says these treads are aimed at retreading partners catering to inner-city and regional hauliers operating light and medium-heavy trucks. Two new winter tyre treads have also been released.

Alliance launches new high-speed floatation tyre
During the course of the recent Agritechnica event, Alliance Tire Group launched the 396MPT – an all-steel high-speed radial floatation tyre. Capable of speeds up to 100 km/h, the latest product is described as “revolutionary technology” by Alliance owing to its high floatation, traction, speed, stability and comfort characteristics. Indeed, according to the company, “this new approach provides a performance combination that was not possible before.”

R O Williams & Son, a farm contractor near Bristol, is aiming to keep its 2009 John Deere 6930 tractor in operation until early 2014 on its original Michelin MultiBib tyres. The JD 6930 has clocked up more than 7,300 hours operation since being delivered to R O Williams & Son more than four years ago, with its tyres still only two-thirds worn (based upon the tyres remaining in service until between 10-15mm of tread is remaining).

Magna Tyres Group has received OEM approval from Noell Mobile Systems, part of Terex Port Solutions, for its newest port handling tyre – the 16.00R25 Magna M-Straddle. With this approval, Noell Mobile Systems confirmed that this tyre can be fitted on Terex Noell Straddle Carriers. This acknowledgement means Magna Tyres will supply Terex a significant part of its annual straddle carrier tyre requirements in 2014 and thereafter.

Michelin to supply original tyres to Porsche Macan
Michelin will provide three tyre lines as original equipment on Porsche’s new Macan SUV. Most notably, the French tyre manufacturer’s new Latitude Sport 3 will make its debut on the SUV, while the Latitude Alpin 2 will equip the Macan with a winter fitment and the Latitude Tour HP all-season tyre will be used for the SUV’s American release, in addition to some other specific regions. The Sport 3 and Tour HP are available in three size specifications, while the Alpin 2 will be supplied in one size specification.
