German test institute certifies Vredestein VF Flotation Optimall’s -25% soil pressure
Independent German test institute DLG has approved the soil preservation and fuel saving characteristics of Apollo Tyres’ new Vredestein VF Flotation Optimall tyre in size VF 750/60R30.5. During the field tests, the Vredestein VF Flotation Optimall achieved a ground pressure that was 25 per cent lower than the other VF competitor tyres tested. It also featured the largest contact surface in its class. Compared to the budget VF tyres in the test, the Vredestein tyre achieved no less than 50 per cent less soil pressure.

Goodyear will launch the new Kmax S (steer) and D (drive) Gen-2 17.5” and 19,5” commercial vehicle tyres at French commercial vehicle trade show Solutrans 2023 (21-25 November, Lyon; Hall 5, Location A031). Goodyear has enhanced the fuel efficiency of its second-generation Kmax range. The manufacturer says the enhancements to its product range respond to evolving market demands like emission reduction and electrification, as well as reducing costs. The Gen-2 steer and drive Kmax tyres will be available from the beginning of 2024.

Goodyear’s new Nordic friction – or non-studded – winter tyre, the UltraGrip Ice 3 has gained several podium positions in the 2023 winter tyre testing season. The tyre won two Finnish tests from magazines Moottori and Tekniikan Maailma, and claimed second place in the tests conducted by Swedish magazines Vi Bilägare and Teknikens Värld. The Goodyear UltraGrip Ice 3 incorporates a range of the manufacturer’s latest winter tyre technologies, including Ice Grip technology, Ice Handling+ technology, and Snow Braking technology.

Apollo Tyres will launch Vredestein’s new Ultrac Pro ultra-high performance summer car tyre in spring 2024. The manufacturer said the tyre will target both “advanced handling capabilities and superior driving comfort” at what it calls an “accessible price”. The development tyre is currently in its final phase of real-world testing. The manufacturer will bring the tyre to market in a wide range of 18-24” sizes, compatible with a broad spectrum of sportscars, supercars and high-performance saloons, hatchbacks and SUVs. The Ultrac Pro is Vredestein’s first all-new UHP summer tyre since the Ultrac Vorti in 2012.

October’s new car market grew by 14.3 per cent to reach 153,529 registrations, 7.2 per cent above pre-pandemic levels and marking the best performance for the month since 2018, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The 15th month of consecutive growth was driven almost entirely by large fleet registrations, which grew 28.8 per cent to reach 87,479 units. Private demand was stable at 62,915 vehicles, a 0.3 per cent increase, while the much smaller business sector saw registrations fall -15.2 per cent to 3,135 units. With the sustained increase in new car registrations, overall vehicle uptake is now up 19.6 per cent in the first 10 months, with the market currently enjoying its best year since 2019.

Off-road tuning company delta4x4 has launched its ”Hoch D” 4x4² version of the Mercedes G-Class, purportedly giving the “presence of the 4x4² without portal axles.” To achieve this, delta4x4 raised the G463A by 50 mm and developed a special body lift kit that raises the vehicle by an additional 100 mm. This allows G-Class drivers to use 22” tyres (size 345/55R22), thanks to an 80mm wheel arch extension. The tuner suggests tyres from “renowned manufacturers such as Mickey Thompson, BF Goodrich, Cooper, and Yokohama” could be used on the tuned model. However, the company’s announcement shows the Hoch D G-Class rolling on the Mileking Mud Champ MK889, a tyre manufactured by Qingdao-based Shandong Acmex Rubber Group.
