Bridgestone to exhibit tyre management services, golf products at CV Show
Bridgestone has called the 2014 Commercial Vehicle Show “our most significant opportunity of the entire year”, announcing its intention to display its Total Tyre Care fleet services from its large stand. Its three tyre management pillars, Total Tyre Life, Total Tyre Services and Total Tyre Systems will be the most prominent visual features in the overall stand design, which will also boast a golf simulator, designed to display Bridgestone’s sports products at an industry show for the first time.

As part of its recent agreement to distribute the full range of Aeolus PCR tyres, Kings Road Tyres is now offering UK stockists exclusive access to the Crossace AS02 SUV tyre. The tyre has a category B wet grip rating, which demonstrates its strong water dispersion qualities. According to the company, the Crossace line has been designed for “comfortable and relaxed driving in road traffic and for light off-road use”.

Conti plans to showcase the first two products from its goods vehicles range: the ContiEcoPlus and the Conti Hybrid. The manufacturer has begun a new naming system for its TBR tyres, with the nomenclature designed to describe more clearly the application the product is intended for.

One industry veteran opines that certain aspects of the retreading process will one day become widespread within the tyre business as a whole. During his presentation on future tyre production principles and methods, given at the Tire Technology Expo 2014 conference on 11 February, one point Jacob Peled raised was that tyre production using the pre-cure method lends itself well to the manufacture of new tyres, and can save a manufacturer time while also avoiding the bottlenecks currently experienced.

Japanese tyre manufacturer Yokohama reports that it has seen demand for its range of SUV and 4x4 tyres in the UK increase in recent years. According to the company, this is due in part to increased numbers for so-called soft-roaders but also the increased awareness of the Yokohama range of SUV and 4x4 tyres.

A new energy efficient passenger car tyre has been developed using the world’s highest energy synchrotron radiation facility and ‘Earth Simulator’ supercomputer. Sumitomo Rubber Industries has employed techniques not traditionally used in the tyre industry to develop what it calls a new “4D Nano Design process” to create the Falken Sincera SN832 Ecorun. The manufacturer claims that the technology has allowed it to perform more detailed simulations and analyses, which have in turn allowed it to reduce rolling resistance and braking distances over its predecessor. The tyre is Falken’s first to receive an A-grade for wet grip on the EU tyre label.

Together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology (IME), Continental has gained a nomination at the GreenTec Awards 2014 for the joint “Rubin” project. The project, which focuses on the industrialisation of rubber sourced from dandelions, is one of three nominees in the ‘Automobility’ category, one of 14 awards categories. On 25 February, the awards jury will decide on the podium positions for the three finalists in each category, and the awards will be given out on 4 May at the start of IFAT, the worlds leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste, and raw materials management.

Bridgestone has launched its new Blizzack LM001 winter tyre for small to mid-sized cars in an event at its Swedish Proving Ground in Vidsel, less than 100km from the Arctic Circle. Following on from the introduction of its Blizzack LM-32 winter tyre for higher performance cars in August 2013, the tyre is designed to improve snow and wet performance, as well as in longevity.
