German motorcycle tyre brand Metzeler is offering motorcyclists not only the chance to win a set of new supersport SPORTEC M7 RR tyres but also to become an official tester for Metzeler. The Metzeler test rider competition is online until September 15 2014 and motorcyclists can participate by accessing both the Metzeler website and the dedicated app on the Metzeler official Facebook page. The competition is divided into two different phases; the first part of the contest is called Photograph, vote and win! (closes June 15) and has two elements of participation.

Brembo opens expanded North American factory
Brembo celebrated the grand opening of its expanded North American manufacturing operations in Homer, Michigan on 22 May 2014. According to the company, the occasion marks Brembo’s commitment to North America. The investment, which will total more than $115 million dollars (83 million euros) through to the end of 2015, expands the facility that houses production of brake, disc, caliper and corner module manufacturing.

Michelin unveils anti-landmine tyre, ‘pushing back limits of mobility’
Michelin has launched a new military tyre product, designed to help clear safe pathways through areas studded with land mines. The manufacturer worked with the French military and defence systems manufacturer MBDA in the development of the tyre. Michelin explained that the company has a duty to stretch the limits of its traditional role as a tyre supplier to provide all-inclusive mobility support. Michelin also announced that it has reworked its range of all-terrain truck mobility solutions, with its X-Force tyres available in four different tread designs, including the new fuel-efficient XZL2 version.

On 16 May, Trelleborg Wheel Systems launched ‘Pit Stop Line’, an innovation that will be employed on its industrial tyre range. The Swedish company describes its new solution as “revolutionary” and says it “answers one of the industry’s most elusive and critical questions” – how to know, with 100 per cent certainty, when a forklift tyre is worn out and needs replacing. Central to Pit Stop Line is an orange line embedded into the tyre; this indicator line is visible on the tyre sidewall and designed to reveal itself across the surface of the tyre when wear reaches a level that necessitates replacement.

Additional size joins Trelleborg’s T418 forestry range
Trelleborg has added a new size to its T418 forestry tyre range. With release of the latest dimension, 30.5L-32 26 PR, five sizes are now available in the T418 line-up, including 23.1-26 16PR – 28L26 20PR – 24.5-32 16PR – 30.5L32 20 and 26 PR. Further sizes will further expand the range in future, the Swedish tyre maker reports.

Chemical producer Lanxess has rolled out a complete rebranding of its butyl rubber products. The brand family now goes under the X Butyl name and all existing product grades have been renamed; Regular Butyl 301, for example, is now called Lanxess X_Butyl RB 301. Bromobutyl 2030 has become Lanxess X_Butyl BB 2030, and Chlorobutyl 1240 has been renamed to Lanxess X_Butyl CB 1240. Lanxess has also launched a new dedicated website, www.butyl.com.

Mitas begins tractor pulling sponsorship, develops ‘Powerpull’ tyre
The world of tractor pulling awaits Mitas following the development of the company’s first prototype tractor pulling tyre and the signing of a sponsorship agreement with the European Tractor Pulling Committee (ETPC). The Mitas Powerpull has been developed using a similar manufacturing process to that used for the Czech tyre maker’s high-power tractor tyres, and Mitas says the production version of the Powerpull will be available this year. The first test prototypes were cured at the company’s Otrokovice factory in April.
