IAAF calls for suppliers to share parts data access experience in EC survey
The IAAF is asking suppliers and motor factors to give their views and experiences on accessing vehicle assemblers’ parts data. Research group Ricardo has issued its questionnaire for parts suppliers and wholesalers, having been appointed by the European Commission to collect and assess market experience in obtaining repair & maintenance information data for repairing and servicing vehicles.

New Pirelli WSB tyres help Sykes set new Misano track record
Pirelli introduced its latest World Superbike tyres at Misano, helping Tom Sykes to set a new lap record. The Superpole tyre was developed by Pirelli as a qualifying tyre, and Sykes was able to shave more than a tenth of a second off Troy Corser’s 2010 record. He also won both the Superbike races on the new soft blend rear solution with team mate Loris Baz and Italian Marco Melandri crossing the line behind him.

Iveco has standardised on 315/70 R 22.5 tyres for new Euro VI tractor units entering service in the UK after seeing the fuel-saving potential of 70-series rubber compared with the 295/80 R 22.5 fitments previously favoured in the UK. Trials in conjunction with Michelin and a major Iveco national fleet customer recorded a 3.87 per cent improvement in fuel economy between two identical Stralis AT440S46TX/P vehicles shod with the two different sizes of tyres.

It isn’t easy to achieve an A/A rating on the European tyre label, at least not if you appraise tyre performance according to the guidelines, but Continental has managed it with the all-new Conti.eContact. The latest generation of tyre to carry this name is initially available in six sizes for 17 and 18-inch rims as a replacement fitment for the European market. Low volume production has begun at Continental’s Sarreguemines tyre plant in France.

Fontijne Ghyselinck, part of the Fontijne Grotnes Group, has received its first two orders for major tyre and wheel assembly machinery from leading OEM manufacturers. Having become an ‘approved supplier’ for a well-known French vehicle manufacturer in 2013, Fontijne Grotnes Group became a supplier of tyre and wheel assembly equipment and within a few months their first official order came through. The procured line has been commissioned in Turkey and includes an automatic fitting line that starts with part recognition, automatic tyre and wheel soaping and fitting.
