Carlstar brand transition progressing well
When visiting the Agritechnica show earlier this month, we spotted tyres under the familiar Carlisle brand name, but these were few in number. More numerous were the Carstar products they shared stand space with – evidence that the brand evolution announced in July 2023 is going ahead smoothly.
Continue ReadingTechnological, materials advances help Hankook commercial tyres to 10%-plus improvements
The key performance characteristics of Hankook’s AH51 and DH51 truck tyres are recording double-digit improvements across the board versus their predecessors, the manufacturer states. Advancements in computer processing power, AI, materials science and 3D printed mould technology have helped Hankook produce truck tyres with a stepped change in performance throughout the life of the tyre. The manufacturer says its investment in these combined technologies has resulted in a cooler running tread, a more rigid tread block and “regenerating” tread features – a tread pattern that evolves as it wears – resulting in significant fuel savings, damage resistance, wet grip and higher mileage for premium fleet partners.

Bridgestone is bringing its sustainability and efficiency focused tyre technology to its range of commercial tyres for long-haul transportation with the new Bridgestone Ecopia Enliten. The latest generation Ecopia has been created for fleets seeking to maximise fuel efficiency and boost total value of ownership, Bridgestone states, saying the new tyres boast enhanced wear and reduced rolling resistance in year-round long-haul commercial fleet applications. The new Bridgestone Ecopia Steer Enliten and Ecopia Drive Enliten tyres are available from January 2024 in size 315/70 R22.5, with four additional sizes added throughout 2024 and one further size in 2025. Bridgestone will add the Ecopia Trailer Enliten from late 2024 to complete the range.
Continue Readingmoveero responds to autonomous vehicle demands
With the use of autonomous vehicles (AVs) in off-highway applications growing rapidly, the designs of a wide range of components, including both wheels and tyres, are having to change. Indeed, in some sectors, the moveero design team has already responded to their introduction with the development of new, patented wheel technologies to meet the different requirements of these vehicles. Traditional wheel and rim designs simply may not deliver the performance requirements that are demanded by AVs. Rather than being completely new designs though, AVs generally require wheels that deliver increased durability, strength and longevity, with existing designs and processes evolving to provide solutions that meet these demands.

To inform prospective customers that its entire current and upcoming passenger tyre range is “optimised to deliver exceptional performance for electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles,” Goodyear has introduced a new sidewall logo. This Goodyear EV-Ready logo will appear on all replacement tyres from the beginning of 2024.
Continue ReadingFarming without pressure – Galileo’s growing CupWheel range
It’s about a decade since we first saw CupWheel airless tyre technology. We knew it then as Mitas PneuTrac, unaware at the time of Israeli firm Galileo and its novel product. Galileo was founded in 2011 by Alon Hayka and CupWheel inventor Avishay Novoplanski. Over the years the company has brought a growing range to market under its own name and returned to Agritechnica this month to present its latest products.

Continue ReadingRepairify: technology, AI can help bridge ADAS servicing skills gap
Garage and diagnostics equipment supplier Repairify has addressed the current chasm between the approximately 3,500 ADAS-qualified technicians in the UK and the 21,500 required to meet market demand for these services. The company says it can help businesses meet the dramatic increase in demand, set to continue as growth in ADAS-equipped vehicles rises, via the support of its own team of IMI-qualified technicians and the development of technology to support maintenance work on these cars. Phil Peace, managing director (SVP) international at Repairify Inc, told Tyres & Accessories that AI and machine learning has enabled the company to enhance its data to support its solutions that puts critical repair information into garage workflow.

Continue ReadingZC Rubber presents latest additions to Tianli range
Our visit to the Tianli stand at Agritechnica 2023 was poorly timed, but no language barrier can stop us from appreciating a new tyre. The ZC Rubber brand brought two to the show, Agri King and Land Care, which it displayed alongside other products from the wide Tianli range.

WMG at the University of Warwick in Coventry and Canada’s University of Victoria are the joint recipients of the inaugural Synthos Rubber Circularity Award, an international competition launched earlier this year to encourage cutting-edge ideas and solutions that significantly improve the environmental performance of synthetic rubber-based tyre compounds. Announcing the winners, Synthos states that the researchers impressed with their “breakthrough technology research concept” but did not elaborate on their work.
Continue ReadingEquipment-free truck tyre balancing with Hofmann Power Weight
Wheel balancing is important for both cars and trucks as true running wheels vibrate and wear less and provide a more comfortable driving experience. However, the size and weight of truck wheels can complicate the balancing process – particularly if specific equipment is required to lift and balance the wheels. With the help of balancing compound, Hofmann Power Weight aims to simplify the balancing process for truck wheels and offer an alternative to traditional balancing with weights.

If a VW dealership informs an ID.3 owner during the course of a standard service appointment that the car’s tyres need to be replaced, it may not simply be a case of wear and tear. We’ve heard of one owner who was informed during a dealer workshop visit that the tyres on his VW ID.3 would need to be replaced if they were specific Goodyear original equipment tyres. He was told that there may be an issue with the tread, and the dealer replaced the Goodyear OE tyres with a new set of Continental tyres free of charge.
