New fitments added to Michelin’s Tweel range
Michelin North America is expanding the market footprint for its airless skid steer tyres with the launch of two new versions of the Michelin Tweel SSL airless radial. These additions to the Tweel portfolio are the 12N16.5 X Tweel SSL All Terrain for a wide range of surfaces and the 12N16.5 X Tweel SSL Hard Surface for pavement use. They join a range that was first introduced two years ago after a development phase that lasted the best part of a decade.

Motor Wheel Service Distribution becomes TruckForce preferred wheel supplier
Motor Wheel Service Distribution (MWSD) has been chosen as the preferred commercial vehicle wheel supplier by TruckForce, Goodyear Dunlop’s truck tyre and breakdown assistance support network. According to the company, the contract will encompass over 45 different wheel sizes ranging from 5.75” x 17.5” to 11.75” x 22.5”, most of which are available in either steel or forged aluminium for the truck, trailer and bus and coach segments.

Kumho staged a UK launch for its updated product range at Rockingham Motor Speedway. Dubbed the ‘Kumho Experience’, the manufacturer’s UK marketing director John Thrupp introduced the day long event, which allowed Kumho’s national network of dealers and media guests to sample the performance characteristics of such tyres as the Solus HS51 premium tyre, which became available in the last quarter of 2013.

Trelleborg has been selected as official partner for the 1,460 mile/2,350 kilometre ‘Antarctica2’ expedition that sets off on 21 November, and has developed a special multi-purpose tyre and wheel set for the journey.

Alba launches the ‘Amp Hound ‘
Alba Diagnostics has added a new device to its range of hand-held diagnostic tools. The Amp Hound is designed to measure amps and reduce the amount of time to determine the current in a fused circuit. According to the company, Amp Hound removes the need to take out fuses one at a time before checking each circuit with a multimeter. With the Amp Hound it is now possible to check the complete fuse box quickly and effectively.

Freescale claims smallest TPMS in world
On 20 October Freescale Semiconductor introduced the FXTH87 tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) family, which the company claims is the smallest integrated TPMS solution available. Weighing in at just 0.3 grams the FXTH87 family is said to be 50 per cent smaller than competing products. Freescale reports that its newest TPMS provides low power consumption combined with the highest level of functional integration in one package, featuring a dual-axis accelerometer architecture, pressure and temperature sensor, integrated MCU, RF transmitter and low frequency receiver.

As part of its association with the World Series by Renault (WSR), Michelin will supply Renault Sport its Pilot Sport S9L for the new Renault Sport R.S. 01. Michelin will provide the tyre in two sizes, 30-68x18 for the front wheels and 31-71x18 for the rear. The company says the decision to fit an 18-inch tyre is in line with its desire to see as many parallels as possible between racing and road tyres, an arrangement that enables new technologies developed for motorsport to be more swiftly carried over to road tyres.
