GTRadial extends Champiro HPY range
Giti Tire has added eight new sizes to its GT Radial Champiro HPY range and will market all SUV sizes to take full advantage of the growing segment. Commanding separate sections in the catalogue and on the website, 15 SKUs, which range from 215/60R17 to 275/55R20 with speed indexes from V to Y, will specifically target the second and third generation owners in the medium sized premium and large powerful SUV automotive sectors. The remaining 27 SKUs in the range will continue to target high performance car owners and will also be marketed separately.

LAMMA launch for jumbo-sized Mitas agri tyre
Weighing-in at 555 kilogrammes, the size 1250/50 R 32 SFT tyre for large agricultural machinery is the largest product in the Mitas portfolio, and the US-made behemoth will be launched in the UK next month. Dakar tyre tops Hankook design competition
The winners of the Hankook Tyre Design Challenge 2014 were announced at the Essen Motor Show in Germany today. This is the fourth time the competition has been held, and this year’s winner is Samir Sadikov, who submitted a ‘Dakar’ racing tyre concept. Runner up was Andreas Hartl with an intelligent “vent tyre” and third place was taken by Lucia Less with the ‘concept winter’ self-transforming snow tyre. These top concepts, which were selected by a jury of design and tyre experts and produced in prototype form by Hankook, will be on display for the rest of the Essen Motor Show’s duration.

Three dimensions from Hankook’s Ventus S1 evo² line-up will be supplied to Audi for original equipment on its TT and TTS models. Size 225/50R17, 245/45R17 and 245/35R19 tyres, all produced at the tyre maker’s Rácalmás plant in Hungary, will be fitted on the latest version of the Audi models as standard or optional equipment, depending on the engine version.

Nokian reports Chinese tyre test victory
The Chinese-market edition of auto motor und sport magazine has voted the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 the winner of its latest winter tyre test. According to Nokian Tyres, the publication called the Hakkapeliitta R2 the “king of winter tyres” in the test that appeared in its 10/2014 issue. The Nokian tyre was one of seven brands (others included Continental, Michelin, Dunlop and Goodyear) tested. Auto motor und sport described the Nokian tyre as offering “excellent grip, good track follow ability, easy to get grip when accelerating and no loss of grip when climbing hill straightly (sic).” The overall evaluation of the Hakkapeliitta R2 is that “it makes everything simple”.

Michelin will markedly increase its activities in the footwear sector following the signing of an agreement with Chinese textile firm the Jihua Group on 26 November. The alliance created by the deal signed at the French tyre maker’s Clermont-Ferrand headquarters aims, in Michelin’s words, to “grab a major share of the world high-performance soles and technical footwear market.”

Mitas launches VF agricultural tyre ranges
With Mitas Premium set to begin replacing the Continental brand name on agricultural tyres shipped to original equipment customers at the start of 2015, manufacturer Mitas has launched a key part of this line-up. The Czech Republic-based tyre maker has begun selling its Very High Flexion (VF) tyres – produced in its Otrokovice plant and in Charles City, Iowa (USA) – in global markets. For high-horsepower tractors, Mitas has released the VF 380/95R38 HC 2000 and VF 480/95R50 HC 2000. For sprayer applications Mitas has unveiled the VF 380/90R46 HC 1000. Further HC 2000 sizes, namely the VF 600/70R30 and VF 710/70R42, will follow shortly.
