Victory for Goodyear, wooden spoon for Cooper in SUV tyre test
The most recent issue of German motoring publication Auto Zeitung contains the results of its size 215/65 R16 H/V SUV tyre test. Nine tyres were fitted to a VW Tiguan 2.0 TSI and evaluated for their performance on wet, dry and off-road surfaces and well as for comfort, noise and rolling resistance; Auto Zeitung voted the Goodyear EfficientGrip SUV its test winner.

The Aeolus ACE Series 2 ranges first displayed at the Madrid-based motortec trade show earlier this month and subsequently shown to distributors and dealers at events in Spain and Finland are the first passenger car products from Aeolus Tyre to go on sale bearing a quality mark from world-renown testing and certification corporation TÜV. The TÜV Tire Test Mark will be used to promote the PrecisionACE2 and SteeringACE2 summer tyre ranges and Aeolus intends to use it as a means of differentiating its products from the many other Chinese brands now on sale in Europe.

If the latest tyre test published by auto motor und sport teaches us one thing, it is that consumers shouldn’t blindly trust the European tyre label. The German magazine tested nine highly-ranked summer tyres, yet some of the test results were at odds with the figures printed on EU tyre labels. The Kumho tyre – which achieved an ‘A’ label rating for wet grip – effectively failed the test, while the Bridgestone participant was only ‘conditionally recommended’. Auto motor und sport awarded top test honours to Continental’s SportContact 5.

Porsche AG has selected the Yokohama Advan Sport V105 as original equipment on the Cayenne crossover. Yokohama Rubber will supply the tyre in size 295/35R21 107Y and says it developed the original equipment tyre together with Porsche – a collaboration denoted by the ‘N-2’ mark on the sidewall of the Advan Sport V105 fitted on the Cayenne.

Continental reports that its TIS-Web fleet management software has been expanded to display and analyse tyre data, enabling fleet managers to obtain information on tyre position, pressure and temperature and allowing them to take action when early signs damage or low pressure emerge. The new function was jointly developed by Continental’s VDO brand and the company’s commercial vehicle tyre business.

The brand will launch with the release of the Davanti DX640 and DX390. Continental aims to address this with its new Conti EcoPlus HD3, its first drive axle tyre developed exclusively for low-liners. This 315/45 R22.5 tyre is designed for the requirements of the volume transport segment, and despite its low diameter is suitable for axle loads of 11.6 tons in twin fitment. The tyre maker says its new low profile tyre is the lowest in its class and enables the best use to be made of a trailer’s three metre internal load height without exceeding the European maximum permitted total height.
