Michelin Ultraflex Technology drives low-compaction spraying solution
A farming contractor in Leicestershire reports he has developed “the optimum set-up for a self-propelled sprayer”, using two different sets of Michelin Ultraflex Technology tyres to reduce soil compaction year-round. Steve Heard Contracting’s tyre choice means the firm’s 12-tonne Agrifac sprayer can operate at lower tyre pressures than conventional farm tyres permit, and without the need to adjust pressures between the road and the field.

The Vredestein Sportrac 5 and Vredestein Ultrac Vorti were rated highly in various independent European tyre tests across dry handling, sound level and fuel consumption tests. German car magazine Auto Bild, the German and Austrian automobile clubs ADAC and ÖAMTC, and the consumer organisation Stiftung Warentest subjected the all-round model Vredestein Sportrac 5 and the Ultra High Performance tyre Vredestein Ultrac Vorti to their multipurpose testing programmes.

Comparative tyre tests sometimes deliver surprise results, however there usually is a clear winner and loser. Not so in testing performed by Auto und Sachen magazine. The German publication selected nine size 205/55 R16 tyres produced by European and Asian manufacturers and rated them for various wet and dry criteria, and for environmental performance, in a ‘double blind’ test. All good so far: But the Auto und Sachen testers unwittingly tested one of the nine tyres twice, and voted it both the winner and wooden spoon recipient in the magazine’s “test of ten tyres”.
