MAK presents Tesla-targeted Solar alloy wheel line
MAK has introduced the new Solar alloy wheel line designed for fitment on Tesla models. The Solar is ECE, NAD and TÜV/KBA approved with the same weight and technical characteristics of the original wheel and with a capacity designed to accommodate the extra load electric cars place on their wheels. The Solar features a “turbine” style design matched to the Tesla Model 3 in the 18” size and the Model Y, a 2023 European bestselling model, in the 19” size.

Summer test – Auto Bild selects 20 finalists from 55 tyres
Size 205/55 R16 is the most frequently purchased tyre dimension in Europe, primarily due to its fitment on compact class vehicles. Recognising this, Auto Bild has selected this size for its comprehensive 2024 summer tyre test. The motoring publication is examining 55 tyres; it hasn’t finished testing but tells its readers that the preliminary round of braking tests in wet and dry conditions has delivered “noteworthy data” for each evaluated tyre.

Nordic focus for Continental’s latest winter tyre
Continental has debuted a new soft compound winter tyre for those who drive in the frostier regions of Europe. This is the Continental VikingContact 8, and during its development the tyre maker focused on “safe driving characteristics in the harsh Nordic winters, increased comfort and lower rolling resistance.” This last quality is important, given the strong uptake of electric cars in Nordic markets. According to Continental, VikingContact 8 is “ideally suited to both conventionally and electrically powered cars, SUVs and hybrids.”

Forvia Hella presents sustainable headlamp concept
Forvia Hella presented its sustainable headlamp concept at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Reducing the carbon footprint of a conventional headlamp by up to 70 per cent across its life cycle, the headlamp also weighs 60 per cent less, at 2kg, compared with the average headlamp’s 5kg. The concepts integrated into the concept include the use of fewer components, with the ability to replace individual parts of the headlamp, and the use of sustainable materials, such as bio-based plastics and recycled materials.

HEVRA has added Dacia to its roster of supported electric vehicle brands, which now covers 40 different electric and hybrid vehicles. The vehicle repair and maintenance information said the addition of Dacia represents “a significant milestone…further enhancing its ability to provide vital information and support to automotive professionals and enthusiasts worldwide.” HEVRA’s database offers technicians the latest repair and maintenance information across a range of 361 models.

Nokian Tyres says it has “improved” its all-season Noktop 21 truck tyre. The drive-axle pattern gains a new look and new features for 2024 while retaining its “time-proven” rubber compound, tread pattern and two-layer cap/base structure.
