Only 16% of European consumers opting for BEVs – Bloomberg Intelligence survey
A new survey from Bloomberg Intelligence (BI) on auto-buying intentions finds that EU automakers battery-electric vehicle (BEV) growth goals look ambitious, with just 16 per cent of private buyers in Europe favouring them. 44 per cent opting for hybrids that play to BMW, Mercedes and Toyotas strengths and disadvantage pure-play Tesla. Few charging points, range anxiety and high prices are the top concerns amongst respondents. The inaugural auto-buying questionnaire surveyed 1,500 adults planning to buy a car in the next 12 months in the five largest European markets of Germany, UK, France, Italy and Spain – together these making up about 75 per cent of the regions sales.

Bridgestone Blizzak LM 005 continues winter tyre test dominance, but others better on snow
German consumer automotive magazine Auto Motor und Sport (AMS) has published the first winter tyre test of the season, pitting seven high-performance 20-inch profiles against each other. The clear overall winner was the reigning WhatTyre Winter Tyre of the Year, Bridgestone’s Blizzak LM 005, yet the tyre benefitted from the magazine’s decision to reduce the share of snow performance in the overall score to 20 per cent; the tyre was rated lower than all but one of the other six competitors in the test. The Stuttgart-based testers fitted 255/45 R20 105V XL tyres on both conventional and electric Kias.

AutoBild Allrad recommends 4 ‘exemplary’ all-season SUV tyres
AutoBild Allrad’s 2023 test of 10 all-season SUV tyres gave four tyres the top “exemplary” grade, with two joint-winners. In Germany, all-season tyres have grown with the most recent product generations’ improved technology, despite the traditional strength of its seasonal tyre change market. The magazine, one of Germany’s leading consumer automotive publications, said the top-ranking tyres in its latest test have “matured into true heroes of road traffic.” At the other end of the scale, three of the size 235/65 R17 108 V/W tyres were described as “not recommended”, while three other tyres gained “satisfactory” and “good” final verdicts. So which all-season products could AutoBild Allrad “unreservedly recommend” to motorists?

Sumitomo Rubber Industries Motorsport Department has selected Avery Dennison’s AD Maxdura tyre tag for use by endurance racing teams on Falken tyres. Teams will benefit from new data to help them prepare and improve race performance. With a unique RFID transponder implanted in each tyre, information can be read automatically and used to identify precisely which tyres are in use from the pit to the track. To further boost control, as well as stock and performance management, the Avery Dennison Maxdura Tire Tag enables teams to optimize real-time inventory and logistics. In addition, providing a unique ID for each tyre is intended to “improve reuse and recycling processes after the race to make events more environmentally sustainable.”
