VMI presents AI smart tyre building options
Smart solutions optimise tyre building and address challenges the industry is facing. New advanced vision systems, self-learning artificial intelligence algorithms and self-adjusting processes contribute to improved flexibility, higher accuracy and consistency. VMI is embracing such concepts and has now introduced the first smart options on the VMI MAXX tyre building machine. These aid the detection of foreign objects, provide intelligent process control and minimise wastage.

Ariel Motor Company, has selected Yokohama tyres as original equipment (OE) for two of its vehicles – the Ariel Atom and the Ariel Nomad. Effective immediately, the Atom will be available to customers fitted with Yokohama’s Advan Sport V105 tyre. From later in 2024, all Ariel Atoms will be fitted with Yokohama’s Advan Sport V105 as part of an exclusive one-make supply agreement.

Maxam Tire recently turned to TÜV SÜD for independent evaluation of how its EcoPoint³ compound influences heat resistance in forklift tyres. The standards and certification specialist examined the properties of seven tyres – Maxam products with and without EcoPoint³, as well as five tyres from competitors – at one of its facilities in Germany. It found that compared to standard compounds and competitor tyres, Maxam’s material handling tyre with EcoPoint³ exhibited significant improvements.

Giti Tire has increased the available “Powered by Sparco” fitments of its GitiSportS2 ultra-high performance tyre in Europe, adding 22 new dimensions to the existing eight. This version of the tyre, which targets sports cars and premium SUVs with low ratio sizes between 225/45R17 and 315/30R22. All sizes are rated A for wet grip and the majority are speed-rated Y. In total, the GitiSportS2 is now available in 63 sizes with rims from 16-22”, section widths from 195-315, series sizes from 30-55, including SUV, and speed indices from V-Y.

Cabot Corporation is offering global customers a new carbon black product. This is Propel E8, an engineered reinforcing carbon black designed to “provide superior tread durability at low rolling resistance for high-performance tyre tread applications,” thereby addressing the challenges posed by heavier and torquier electric vehicles. The Propel E8 grade complements Cabot’s existing solutions within the Propel E series, which are also suitable for use in high-performance tyres.

The Aeolus giant tyre project has completed all approval procedures and is expected to start construction in June 2024. The project is in Aeolus’ western factory in Jiaozuo. It plans to build a new production plant and power station and add giant tyre building and vulcanisation equipment. The construction period of the project is 24 months. After completion, it will be able to add 20,000 giant engineering radial tyre production capacity every year.

Autozeitung recently conducted its summer tyre test for 2024, joining the ranks of evaluations by Auto Bild as well as European motoring clubs ADAC, ÖAMTC and TCS. The German motoring publication looked at nine brands of 225/45 R17 94W/Y XL tyres, mounting them on a BMW 1-Series and subjecting all to a range of tests in wet and dry conditions.

Netherlands based Magna Tyres has expanded its range of commercial vehicle tyres. The M-Truck has been designed for various haulage applications – long haul, regional and construction operations – in steer, drive, all position and trailer fitments. The range incorporates a variety of features from its steel belted casing to the rubber compound designed for high resistance against punctures and other field hazards. The Magna M-Truck range is currently available in eight pattern options: RG10, RG11, RG20, RG30, RG31, CO10, C020, and CO30. The manufacturer adds that it is seeking to appoint distributors in various markets. Magna will display its truck tyre range among other products at The Tire Cologne.
