Marangoni Marix retreads for reach stackers
In the industrial handling sector, the choice of an OTR tyre represents a significant and fundamental investment, as the aim is not only to guarantee efficient portside and intermodal operations and ensure high levels of quality and reliability – a further goal is to meet an increasingly important requirement amongst many companies operating in this sector, reduced operating costs.

Winter tyres unsuitable for summer conditions – Bridgestone
While winter tyres are still more or less a niche product in the UK – Bridgestone says only around eight per cent of motorists drive on winter tyres – across Europe this figure is much higher. A number of drivers succumb to the temptation of keeping their winter tyres fitted all year round, and doing so is perfectly legal – yet few realise the extent to which this can compromise their vehicle’s braking performance.

Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 exclusive OE fitment on BMW M4 GTS
Specially developed versions of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 will be the sole original equipment tyre on the new limited model BMW M4 GTS. The Pilot Sport Cup 2 was deemed the right tyre for the 493bhp poster boy of the M-car range due to its combination of a dual-compound asymmetric tread and an asymmetric casing design, a coupling that Michelin says offers the “optimum balance between handling, grip and tyre life.” The M4 GTS will wear the Pilot Sport Cup 2 in size 265/35 ZR 19 at the front and size 285/30 ZR 20 on the rear.

Schrader brings retrofit TPMS kit to Europe
Although fitment of a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is now mandatory in all new cars sold in the EU, the technology is still absent from a sizeable section of the car parc in the UK and other European countries, and the high (and increasing) average age of vehicles on the road means that cars lacking TPMS will remain with us for some years to come. Schrader now offers European motorists a retrofit kit that can add direct TPMS to these vehicles.

Asphalt 8 promotion places Nexen Tire in virtual racing game
Nexen Tire is advertising in a motorsport championship that doesn’t actually exist in the real world, and that’s a good thing, as this non-existent championship is the mobile racing game Asphalt 8. Starting 30 March, the tyre maker is targeting consumers in European markets through the placement of video and banner advertisements within the Asphalt 8 game and by holding various in-game events, including a customised sponsor cup – the Nexen Tire Cup – and by offering mini games for European markets.

New additions to BKT range on show at Bauma
BKT says there is no way of overlooking its presence at Bauma. This comment relates to the company’s size 27.00 R 49 Earthmax SR 45 Plus mining tyre, which at an imposing 2.70 metres tall can be easily spotted within the Munich-based exhibition’s outdoor area, however it could equally apply to the number of new products that the off-road tyre specialist has brought to the show.

TyrePal launching OE-orientated trailer TPMS
British firm TyrePal is launching a new tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) to help OEM trailer builders and trailer fleet operators tackle the problem of tyre blowouts on HGV freight trailers. The TyrePal trailer TPMS indicator consists of TyrePal sensors on each tyre and a robust indicator that can be mounted inside or outside the trailer. The indicator can operate independently of the truck to provide an immediate visual and audible alert when the sensors report rapid pressure loss, tyre overheating, under-inflation or over-inflation.

WheelRight wins European transport award
WheelRight, which uses an external drive-over device to measure tyre pressures, recently won a European safety award at an exhibition in Holland (InterTraffic). The Safety Innovation Award went to WheelRight for its drive-over tyre monitoring technology. This solution measures tyre pressure and vehicle weight as a vehicle drives over road-embedded sensors. WheelRight therefore measures every vehicle in a fleet from day one, instantly identifying the vehicle by its number plate, and reporting any problems within seconds.
