New Rockproof combines heavy machine durability & car tyre comfort, says Nokian
Nokian Tyres has introduced a new off-road tyre for light trucks and SUVs, the Rockproof, and says it “offers extreme durability for professional driving and off-road enthusiasts. The tyre maker singles out quarries, forests and mines as environments in which the Nokian Rockproof is a “fearless performer,” and states that “this sturdy new tyre is a tireless workhorse with a thoroughbred mining compound that can handle even unexpected impacts during demanding off-road use.” Eight Nokian Rockproof sizes will introduced in Europe early next year.

‘Sustainable’ car goes on show
The ecological car firm Riversimple Movement employs 23 at an R&D centre in Llandrindod Wells, mid Wales and is currently crowd funding for their Rasa (Latin for clean slate) to match a €2m EU grant. The striking, gull-wing vehicle is capable of travelling 300 miles on a single tank of hydrogen, with 20 prototypes taking to the UK roads on a 12 month public trial in 2017 before the full production vehicle arrives late 2018. The Rasa is capable of 0-60mph in 10 seconds with a top speed of 60mph, and refuels in only three minutes.

All-season tyres aren’t just growing in popularity in the UK – sales of year-round rubber are on the up in many European markets, and these products are increasingly the subject of comparative tyre tests. The latest is from Germany’s Autoclub Europa (ACE) and its Austrian partner the Auto, Motor und Radfahrerbund Österreichs (ARBÖ); this test evaluated the performance of ten size 250/55 R16 all-season tyres. The question the two motoring associations strove to answer was whether all-season tyres are true universal geniuses or merely winter tyres with summer characteristics.

Giti Tire launches Giti PCR brand in Germany, debut at Automechanika Frankfurt
Following up the European launch of Giti branded truck tyres at Reifen 2016, Giti Tire has now launched a new flagship Giti branded passenger car and SUV summer portfolio for the German market. The range, which consists of four “premium performance” tyres, has been developed and tested exclusively throughout Europe by the company’s Hannover-based R&D Centre. Giti stated that there were “no plans to replace the GT Radial brand”, previously positioned as its global flagship, in Europe when the commercial range was launched. According to the manufacturer, this remains the case, with the Giti PCR range designed to complement its existing GT Radial, Primewell and Runway brands; Giti will offer selected sizes aimed at specific vehicle segments.
